Landed at Perkypile hunting camp then skied 22 miles, passing the terminus of the Chedotlothna Glacier, to the west fork of the Herron Glacier. We then climbed the ridge between the two forks of the Herron, putting in a high camp on the eastern base of the Whale's Tail (also called The Fin). From there on 24 March, we headed for the summit. A fall by two members of the group resulted in a helicopter rescue from the saddle between Foraker and the Whale's Tail. The two of us remaining summited the Whale's Tail and returned the 31 miles to Perkypile. |
