Ascent Trip Report

Fun climb with a diverse group of friends.

I had heard of a way around the cliff at the base of the summit block, so I tried it and it worked great. When arriving at the cliff there is a ledge leading left (east) around the summit area. After passing the cliffs above leading to the summit (not very far from the standard cliff), find a place to scramble up onto the rock above the ledge and find your way around the east end of the summit block to the south side. When you get far enough south to look up to the west and see the summit, you'll be able to see a third-class scramble route that doesn't require rope. I ascended and descended this way and it was much quicker than setting up the belay and rappel on the standard route.

Looking up into the Broken Top crater from the trail, where Ardith waits.

Great view of South Sister and Green Lake from the summit.

Great view of Middle and North Sisters from the summit.

Karl on the summit.
