SEOUL - South Korea's largest public broadcaster, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), has apologised after two of its reporters were arrested in Singapore on Thursday (June 7) for trespassing in the North Korean ambassador's home, reported Yonhap News Agency.
The Singapore Police Force said on Friday that it received a call at 3.50pm on Thursday. The Straits Times understands that officers went to the ambassador's home, where the two South Koreans representing KBS News were being held. They arrested the two men, aged 42 and 45, at the scene.
In a prime-time news report on Friday, the broadcaster issued a public apology for not being cautious in covering the news ahead of the June 12 summit between the leaders of North Korea and the United States.
"We will respect the results of the police investigation and take necessary steps as soon as results are available," KBS said in an e-mailed statement to Yonhap.
The issue was seriously discussed during a tea meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae In and his officials earlier in the day, presidential spokesman Kim Eui Kyeom told reporters.
Kim asked South Korean journalists to exercise caution in covering the summit.
The Korea Press Foundation said more than 300 South Korean reporters plan to visit Singapore to cover the summit.
