A man has died after his body was 'pulled from water' in a town centre. Police, firefighters, and paramedics had all been scrambled to the scene in Stafford this morning.

Now West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed a man was pulled from the water at Victoria Park - where the River Sow runs - and was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. StokeonTrentLive reported how a number of the service's incident response units were lined up on Victoria Road alongside fire engines and both marked and unmarked police cars.

During the height of the incident an air ambulance had landed on the car park off Doxey Road. The alarm had been raised just before 9.35am.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a patient in the water at Victoria Park in Stafford at 9.33am. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the trust’s hazardous area response team (HART) and the Midlands air ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene with the first resource arriving in five minutes.

"On arrival, crews found a man who was pulled from the water and ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene."

We are awaiting statements from the police and the fire service. Updates will appear in our dedicated blog here.
