Police have carried out 'an extensive search' at a Staffordshire school this morning after 'bomb threats' had been made. But officers believe the threats aimed at Burton's Robert Sutton Catholic School were a hoax.

The alarm had been raised just after 8am this morning 'following reports of an individual making threats via email' to the Bluestone Lane school.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers went there and carried out an extensive search to make sure the area was safe and reassure pupils and staff."

The force says an investigation is now underway to track down the person behind the threats.

The spokeswoman added: "There is not believed to be any wider threat to the public at this time. We’re treating this as a hoax and will be carrying out enquiries to identify the person responsible."
