The Aboriginal Sport Circle of the Western Arctic (ASCNWT) was formed in 1999 through collaboration between the Northwest Territories government and Native chiefs to promote wellness in at-risk Aboriginal youth. The ASCNWT incorporates Indigenous culture, traditions, and values into sports and recreation programs. It has gained participation across the 33 Native communities in the NWT, with over 16 programs. The ASCNWT evaluates programs through feedback from sharing circles and informal conversations to improve programs.

The Nashville Area MPO has several projects related to health and transportation. These include but are not limited to: prioritizing bicycle and pedestrian projects according to areas with populations with highest amounts of health disparities, conducting a Health Impact Assessment of a Transit Oriented Development Project, providing Safe Routes to School bicycle and pedestrian education training to P.E. teachers throughout the MPO area, and conducting a study with Vanderbilt University on energy expenditure by mode of transportation. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will discuss state level efforts to link transportation and health including adopting language addressing the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians in the State Strategic Highway Safety Plan, adding language and a test question on non-motorized modes to the state Drivers’ License Manual and exam, adopting a rumble stripe policy that addresses the comfort and safety of bicyclists, and training law officers across the state on bicycle and pedestrian laws. The MPO and TDOT will also discuss efforts to include transportation into the statewide plan to address obesity in Tennessee.

This document discusses how state agencies and Economic Development Districts (EDDs) can collaborate through the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) process. It provides examples of states leveraging regional CEDS plans to inform statewide goals and programs. States can support regional CEDS planning by providing data, information, and resources. Statewide associations of EDDs are well-positioned to lead statewide CEDS/planning efforts in collaboration with states. EDDs should be key partners in developing and implementing statewide CEDS plans, even if not led by EDDs.

The RIDC is a private economic development organization in southwest Pennsylvania that develops industrial and technology sites. It focuses on growing key industry clusters like advanced manufacturing, biotech, and autonomy. Some of RIDC's past projects include redeveloping former steel and manufacturing sites, removing contamination, and attracting new companies. These redevelopment projects have created thousands of jobs and millions in annual tax revenue while transforming formerly blighted areas.

How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server

This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
