Yesterday, famed director Garry Marshall sadly passed away at the age of 81, due to complications from pneumonia and a stroke. While you might not have heard of Marshall, he was a writer, producer, and director behind some of the industry's biggest movies and TV shows. He created a little series known as Happy Days in 1974—AKA the show that launched Ron Howard's career—as well as The Odd Couple and Laverne & Shirley. After developing these cult '70s TV shows, he went on to work as a director, helming classic romcom movies like Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, The Princess Diaries, and, most recently, the celeb-packed films Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, and Mother's Day. He pretty much skyrocketed the careers of Julia Roberts and Anne Hathaway.
Celebs from Richard Gere to Henry Winkler to Jessica Alba have shared their condolences publicly, and Marshall will truly be missed. Here, we count 11 of the amazing movie moments we wouldn't have without Marshall—as well as what we learned from them—in honor of the late Hollywood legend.

Our thoughts are with Marshall's friends, family, and colleagues as they remember this magnificent director.
