The Housing Affordability Index measures whether or not a typical family earns enough income to qualify for a mortgage loan on a typical home.

-0.7%
In May 2024, existing-home sales fell slightly as the median sales price climbed to a record high. In the four regions of the U.S., sales declined month-over-month in the South but were unchanged in the Northeast, Midwest, and South. Year-over-year, sales rose in the Midwest but receded in the Northeast, South, and West.

-7.7%
Pending home sales fell 7.7% in April 2024, with all regions of the U.S. registering month-over-month and year-over-year decreases, and the Midwest and West experiencing the largest monthly declines.
