Yankees send Jabari Blash to the Angels

NorthJersey
Giancarlo Stanton and Jabari Blash wait to do stretches to start practice.

A day after bolstering the infield with the acquisition of Brandon Drury, the Yankees made another trade on Wednesday.

The team announced that it sent outfielder Jabari Blash to the Angels for cash considerations and a player to be named later. Blash was designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room for Drury on the 40-man roster.

Blash came over from the Padres in the Chase Headley trade on Dec. 12 in an effort to clear salary. Reliever Bryan Mitchell was also included in the deal.

As a reserve in San Diego last season, Blash hit .213 with five homers and 16 RBI in 195 plate appearances. With an outfield of Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, playing time for Blash always seemed like a long shot.
