Stones Rule As 1997 Top Concert Tour

December 15 [10:00 EDT] -- For all those who scoffed when the aging rockers first announced they would return to the road, we offer the following news item: the Rolling Stones top "Performance" magazine's list of 1997's top grossing tours.

The Stones made just under $87 million playing just 32 shows, the fewest shows of any act in the top ten.

Coming in just behind the Stones are U2 with their PopMart extravaganza, which grossed more than $76 million at 43 shows.

Rounding out the top ten are Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, Reba McEntire with Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Tina Turner, Jimmy Buffett, Phish, and Toni Braxton with Kenny G. Among those top ten concert draws, country music giant and admitted Kiss fan Garth Brooks played the most dates with 109 shows in 1997.
