The nursery worker who saw an innocent baby as a 'nuisance' - now she's been locked up for killing her
Kate Roughley was unanimously found guilty of the manslaughter of nine-month-old Genevieve Meehan and was jailed for 14 years
"Stop your whinging, Genevieve... Genevieve, go home. Genevieve, if we had any chance of being friends, you just blew it."
These were the vile words nursery worker Kate Roughley used towards a baby girl days before she died at her hands. She had been caring for nine-month-old Genevieve Meehan at the Tiny Toes Nursery in Stockport.
In haunting CCTV footage, Roughley berated the little girl, calling her a 'stress head'. She found the infant to be a 'nuisance', a judge concluded.

On May 9 2022, Roughley swaddled Genevieve inside a blanket, before strapping her face down onto a bean bag. She sadly died in hospital later that day.
Roughley was jailed for 14 years after she was convicted of manslaughter by ill-treatment following a trial at Manchester Crown Court. She is one of a number of criminals locked up this week in our region.
Also starting lengthy terms behind bars are a murderer who killed his friend; a man who attacked staff at a GP surgery when he couldn't get an appointment; and a vile rapist.
Prison terms are handed out to the worst offenders. Manchester Evening News reporters are on hand to cover the most serious cases.

Following a four-week trial, Roughley was unanimously found guilty of manslaughter by jurors on Monday (May 20).

A man knocked a doctor and receptionist unconscious as he attacked members of staff with a metal pole in a vicious attack at a GP surgery - after he failed to get an appointment. Olumuiwa Oduntan, 61, barged into the Florence House medical practice on Ashton Old Road, Openshaw, on September 17, 2021, 15 minutes after calling reception to ask for a repeat prescription.
After demanding an appointment, he was told there were none left. Oduntan then picked up a metal pole before smashing the safety glass at the desk, hitting a GP and two other staff members over the head and throwing a fourth NHS worker to the ground.
All four victims were left with injuries and suffered 'emotional and psychological' damage. One relocated to the Scottish Highlands as she was left 'too scared to leave the house'.
Oduntan has now been jailed for six-and-a-half years.

A ‘highly manipulative’ gambling addict tried to murder his mother by smothering her with a pillow as she slept. Susan Robb woke up to find her son Thomas trying to kill her, in the home in Middleton which she shared with her husband and their only child.
Robb, who had displayed ‘contempt’ for his 62-year-old mother in the lead up to the horrifying attack, had racked up significant gambling debts and believed killing her would help him financially. He had been due to receive about £128,000 from the sale of his mother’s parents home, but the windfall was instead set aside for Robb’s two children.
Manchester Crown Court heard that Mrs Robb was able to fight her son off during the attack and call her husband, who was sleeping in another bedroom. Thomas Robb, 28, has now been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of attempted murder.
