Editor's note: A previous version of this story's headline had the wrong weekday listed as the date of the plane crash.

Two LSU students, Giselle and Jean-Luc Doucet, and their father died on May 15 in a private plane crash. The siblings were set to graduate just two days later on May 17.

The family was traveling from Gonzales to Louisville with their father, Lucius "Tre" Doucet, flying the plane. According to reporting by WAFB, the plane began to break down an hour into their flight, leaving a trail of debris.

The plane crashed in Franklin, Tennessee, a town about 20 miles south of Nashville. According to WAFB, federal investigators said it might be weeks before they find the cause of the plane crash.

Giselle Doucet was studying at LSU's School of Veterinary Medicine, and Jean-Luc was studying engineering.

LSU posted a statement on its social media, sending condolences and referring anyone in need of support to LSU's Student Health Center for Mental Health Services.

The statement called the news "heartbreaking for the LSU community, but especially for those who know and love these two students and those who were expecting to share graduation with them."

In the statement, LSU said they will honor both students during their commencement ceremonies.
