Voting problems - only a few - easily fixed

There have been few incidents of voting machine problems so far in today's midterm election in Lebanon County, and any problems that arise have a solution, according to the elections office.

Michael Anderson, head of the voting and elections office for Lebanon County, said the age of the county's voting machines can cause them to get out of calibration, something that is easily fixed.

What could happen?

If a machine is out of calibration, your selection may not be the one that is highlighted. That means the machine is out of calibration.

What should you do?

Get the attention of an election worker and they can fix the machine.

What happens next?

Anderson said that erring on the side of caution, the election worker will move you to a different machine and you will vote on that machine. The machine you were on will be recalibrated and ready for the next voter to use.

Pay attention!

As the election workers will tell you and the signs at the polling place show, you are not done voting until you see the screen that says your ballot has been cast. There are several options to review your choices before you cast your ballot - but you have to follow the process through to the end.

Can this system be hacked?

According to a letter from the Lebanon County Board of Elections, "Lebanon County's voting machines do not  -- and cannot -- connect to the internet in any way and there is nothing to suggest our machines have ever been tampered with."
