Yvan Francis Le Louarn, who published under the name Chaval, was a French humorist. Born in Bordeaux, Le Louarn's career on a more dubious note during World War II, when he made satirical cartoons for the local pro-Nazi magazine Le Progrès. Several of them had a xenophobe or antisemitic nature.The artist became famous in the 1950s, when he published in several major newspapers. He also made a couple of short films, such as 'Conte Médiocre' and 'Les Oiseaux sont des Cons'. Chaval, who became neurotic after his wife died, commited suicide in Paris in January 1968. His friend Mario Ruspoli made two short films about him: 'Chaval' and 'Le Chavalanthrope'.

Chaval was an influence on artists like Gal (Gerard Alsteens), F'murrPhilippe Geluck and Patrice Ricord.
