Poor Things (2023)
Fine weirds
My first impressions were like "wtf have I seen", then I realised that this film's title Poor Things. It became apparent in every aspect of the film, from its narrative to its artistic expression. Every weird scene i asked myself, why this film was made? Why?? I tried to convince myself that the real idea is to show us that "we are terrible humanity that makes things poor", but no, its too weird to be true, I'd rather believe that the director's message is to show naked Emma Stone to the whole world.
I can say only 1 thing, Poor Things is a film for weird people. But those people will still say that's film is weird. Maybe it's the sense. But it's still weird, and i like it.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
In Search of attractiveness
Arcane is like rich teen, brand new clothes, iphones, cool friends, but lacking the essential - soul, atmosphere, vibe - it's dull inside. All it has is a beautiful facade, hiding his problems and emptiness from us.
The producers took too broad of a scope; the whole show turned into a TikTok-like endless stream of unlimited action where you can't keep up to understand what's happening, and end up with gaps in the plot, creating this emptiness.
It's hard to sympathize with the main characters (Vi and Jinx) they are two crazy troublemakers with no real motive other than reunion, which will never happen. So It's the main issue of the show is the absence of compelling characters; there's no one to root for except Caitlyn (Pancake)
It's also sad that the writers didn't fully reveal the world of Piltover: how people live in the city, what they think about the underworld, what they do. We hardly see Topsiders, which makes us sympathize more with the underworld.
Certainly, the show lacks scenes like Caitlyn and Vi walking through the underworld to delve deeper into the world and understand it better, closing the gaps in the plot with such scenes. This is what I personally expect from the second season (but ideally, all of this should have been in the first).
Overall, it's an expensive, beautiful, but soulless series that is definitely worth watching to understand modern creative trends.
