John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
"Style over substance" in perfection. Boring and disgusting.
I really liked the 1st John Wick movie and while not liking Part 2 and 3, they at least tried to establish more background story. Unfortunately this did not really help them to be as good as the first one.
The 4th John Wick movie is something special. First of all, the cinematography is spectacular. Every scene is very well done and wonderfully directed, especially the fight scenes. That gives one star as a guarantee.
The second star is well deserved for the additional cast, especially Donnie Yen and Shamier Anderson. They add at least some character moments.
But everything else that makes a good movie just isn't there. The acting of Keanu Reeves is godawful and hard to swallow at times. The line "I need a gun" can be performed more convincing by Steven Segal, and that is the lowest bottom line you can think of.
The fight scenes are way too long and look like from a computer game including physics denial at it's best. There is nothing exciting about them, except the appreciation for the stuntmen and women and the actors doing some of them by themselves.
Let's hope this one is the last of this series.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Third season starts to continue destroying STAR WARS
I actually liked the first two seasons concluding with a great ending. They were entertaining and a well made additio to the STAR WARS universe.
Although some of the episodes of season three are well played and directed it seems that the overall story is forced to conclude into the sequels, which is the worst possible scenario.
Season three feels incomplete and pointless at the same time. Too many (sub-)storylines are started but not concluding into any storyline you can follow. Some episodes felt totally out of touch with a complete story. You could cut down all episodes to three hours without missing anything imprtant.
So, in the end ANDOR remains the only Disney produced series worth watching.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Stunning visuals, but lacks in storytelling
I watched in 3D with HFR and really enjoyed the visuals and the world building. James Cameron knows how to direct action movies and also has a sense for future technology, especially in his favourite territory, which is the ocean and water in general. Every frame is just filled with that sense of detail.
But unfortunately the story and the character motivations just do not work for me. Everything is 100% predictable from start to finish. There are stupid decisions being made of main characters, that i simply could not follow and the story itself also feels incomplete, which was quite disappointing in the end.
AVATAR 2 is still a good movie and worth watching in the theatre, but don't expect a good story.
Ambulance (2022)
The most boring audiovisual noise possible
This was a hard watch. Nothing works in this movie. I feel really bad for everyone involved in this production. Nobody needs or will remember Ambulance. Go and watch Speed or Heat, because everything is better done in those pictures.
