Poor Chuck Cunningham.
On Happy Days, producers thought enough of Richie’s older brother to cast two different actors (Gavan O’Herlihy and Randolph Roberts) to play the basketball-dribbling college student. Chuck showed up 11 times during the show’s first two seasons, only to mysteriously disappear without explanation.
Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, as described on TV Tropes, is when television characters aren’t killed off or written off — they simply vanish as if they never existed. Here are seven more sitcom characters who suffered a similar Chuck Cunningham-like fate…
1 Judy, ‘Family Matters’
Suffering a fate worse than Chuck, Judy, the third and youngest child in the Winslow clan, was around for a full three seasons. Come Season Four? Poof! No more Judy. You couldn’t even say she was off at an extended summer camp because, from that point forward, Carl and Harriette were pretty explicit about having only two children. You’re out of the will,...

Before the age of Primetime Emmy Awards sweeps for comedy “Schitt’s Creek” and drama “The Crown” – a trend that could very well continue this year by either “The Bear” or “Shōgun” – there was “Angels in America.” The HBO miniseries adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tony Kushner won 11 Emmys back in 2004 and famously took home the prizes in all seven top categories, making it the very first program to do so. This year’s 76th annual ceremony marks the 20th anniversary of the show’s historic night. To celebrate Kushner’s birthday on July 16, let’s flashback to that epic Emmys sweep.
The television adaptation followed just 10 years after the premiere of both plays on Broadway in 1993. Those original productions of “Millennium Approaches” and “Perestroika” nabbed seven Tony Awards combined, including two wins for Best Play, one for director George C. Wolfe, one for actor Ron Liebman as Roy Cohn,...

Jenn Tran is off to a great start as she looks for love on Season 21 of The Bachelorette.
On the first night, the gorgeous Pa student met 25 men, some of whom were handsome and well-adjusted, and others were quickly rubbing viewers the wrong way.
While the location where the premiere changed, some things didn’t.
The limo exits were similar to previous seasons, with each man looking for a way to stand out and make a big impression on Jenn.
Some of them seemed to be trying more to impress viewers, though, or to at least get everyone talking about them.
We’re talking about you, Brian.
But there was one man who had The Bachelorette viewers going gaga for all the right reasons, and they can’t stop talking about him.

Outer Range, the sci-fi drama series our own Alex Maidy called the weirdest show you’re not watching, has been cancelled after two seasons. With so many TV shows out there, it’s always a shame when a good show slips through the cracks, which feels like what has happened with Outer Range.
The series stars Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher fighting for his territory and family at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness who must grapple with the unknown after discovering an unfathomable mystery on his land in the form of a dark void. The mystery deepens in the second season as Royal and his wife Cecelia struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts.

Every TV buff has come across shows which unapologetically sucked them into a rigorous binge over the weekend. These shows, with their exciting themes and out-of-pocket plots, hit just the right spots to keep viewers hooked. Be it the first time we rushed through all the episodes of The Bear in a single afternoon or express-binged the six delightfully unhinged seasons of Schitt’s Creek, there’s nothing quite like good TV. However, there have been instances when a beloved show turns rancid like rotting milk when the release of a new season mercilessly butchers the previously engrossing storyline. A series that...

FX’s “The Bear” has been the series equivalent of a three-star Michelin, James Beard Award-winning restaurant since its premiere in 2022. Created by writer/director/product Christopher Storer, the hit show revolves around Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), a chef from the fine dining world in New York, who returns to his home in Chicago to run the family’s sandwich shop after the suicide of his brother. The first season won 10 Emmys including best comedy series and actor in a comedy series for White. Besides earning a Peabody, “The Bear” also performed well at the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes. The second season is a strong Emmy contender and the third season which just dropped will probably follow suit in 2025.

Exclusive: Eugene Levy has another plane to catch for Apple.
The Schitt’s Creek star will present and executive produce a third season of The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy after the show was renewed by Apple TV+.
Season 3 promises to follow Levy on a “truly global adventure” as he attempts to curate his ultimate travel bucket list.
It follows the actor’s journey through Europe in Season 2, during which he went truffle hunting in Italy, explored the wellness hay baths of Germany, and enjoyed the company of Joan Collins in Saint-Tropez.
Levy said: “I really appreciate what this show is trying to do for me. But to be a real seasoned traveler you need to have a strong sense of adventure and curiosity, and I’m ashamed to say over the past two seasons I’ve developed neither. But I have to admit I’m having a lot of fun putting in the effort.

Unfortunately, thanks to too many TV shows that shamelessly drag on for several seasons longer than they need to, many people believe that the longer a show goes on, the worse its quality becomes. When you look at some shows like ABC's Grey's Anatomy, it's hard to disagree.
However, over the years there have been some rare gems thrown into the mix. These shows are not only as good as they were in the beginning, but they get better the longer you watch them. Here are 8 that fans couldn't get enough of.
Breaking Bad (2008-2013)
One of the most classic choices, which doesn't make it any less valid. The show may be a little hard to get into, but the longer you watch, the more invested you become in the story, and the more devastated you are when the finale arrives.
What's even better is that Breaking Bad holds up over the years,...

Toronto has long been a popular destination for major productions thanks to its solid and skilled crew base, competitive tax credits, extensive studio space and growing tech sector. Projects such as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Amazon’s hit show The Boys and Netflix comedy Ginny & Georgia are just some of the 24 productions that are shooting (or close to shooting) in Ontario’s capital city. And while its modern infrastructure and very stable and long-established system of local and federal incentives have always been a big draw to the region, this is, say locals, just one piece of the puzzle as the city looks to build on this growth.
“The economic argument is that the production services tax credit is here, and it’s been stable for a really long time,” says Marguerite Pigott, the Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries for the City of Toronto. “This, plus...

The first season of the Boston-set Frasier reboot obviously didn’t feature the late John Mahoney as Martin Crane, and David Hyde Pierce famously declined the opportunity to return as Niles, ultimately leaving little connective tissue between the two shows. And we haven’t even mentioned the fact that Frasier’s son Freddie now has an entirely new face.

At least Season Two will bring back Peri Gilpin’s Roz in a “recurring capacity,” and apparently Bulldog and Gill will make an appearance for some reason. After all, who amongst us wouldn’t travel across the country just to visit an ex-co-worker?
In a lot of ways, Frasier 2.0 feels like just another Kelsey Grammer sitcom, of which there have been many. So let’s take a look back at some of the Grammer-led comedies that probably would have done better had he simply changed the main character’s name to “Frasier Crane,...

Three horror powerhouses are coming together for The Monkey, an adaptation of the Stephen King story produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins (Longlegs).
Neon will likely release The Monkey sometime in 2025, but what can you expect from Osgood Perkins’ take on the classic King story? For starters, it’s Nothing like Longlegs.
Perkins tells Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast this week, “It’s gonna feel more like Misery or Creepshow or Gremlins or American Werewolf. It couldn’t be Less like Longlegs. To me, if you’re gonna make a movie about a toy monkey, you can be serious about it. But so much of King is funny and nostalgic feeling. So we tried to make a movie that felt a little bit more like something from the late ’80s – ’90s. It’s sorta like, if Robert Zemeckis had just like a Little bit of acid...

Following rave reactions from a preview at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, DreamWorks‘ The Wild Robot trailer arrives to tease a grand adventure of discovery, defying directives, and finding your place in the world, even if that place is the most unlikely venue on the planet.
The Wild Robot follows the journey of a robot—Rozzum unit 7134, “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.

There have only been 19 Egot winners in entertainment history. This acronym title is attributed to the few stars who win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, demonstrating them to be one of the very best practitioners in each of the four major entertainment fields of TV, music, film, and theater.
Several stars are looking to become the 20th Egot winner and among those names is Taika Waititi. He won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2020 for “Jojo Rabbit,” ticking off the film segment of the Egot. He then took home a Grammy for the same film in 2021 when he won Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media. That was number two.
However, he has yet to win an Emmy or a Tony. He has never worked on Broadway, but he has reaped three Emmy bids to date. In 2020, he was nominated for Character Voice-Over Performance for playing...

There’s no news when we say that the whole world is literally obsessed with some American sitcoms, like Friends, The Office, Parks and Rec, and many more. These shows are on almost everybody’s rewatch: all of us just choose a number 1 series and turn them into a comfort show we watch on every occasion.
However, after Schitt's Creek just arrived, it was clear that Canadian TV has a lot to offer as well. The show is so hilarious and well-written it makes you wonder what else there is in the national store.
So here we have 5 best Canadian sitcoms to check out after you are done (for a while) with Schitt's Creek.
1. Trailer Park Boys (2001-2018)
Well, we couldn't start with anything less iconic, so the choice for the first series in the list was pretty obvious. Trailer Park Boys is a follow-up show that was created after...

As The CW has changed its financial model under new owners Nexstar, entertainment president Brad Schwartz has relied more on international co-productions from countries like Canada. Speaking on Tuesday at the Banff World Media Festival, Schwartz — who hails from Canada — acknowledged that in the past, Canadian acquisitions on U.S. networks have often been seen in a lesser light. He’s hoping that perception is changing, however.
“I would hate for anybody to ever think that Canada is the discount area, because that’s kind of our Canadian personalities in the first place,” Schwartz said. “Canada has the advantage of having some great broadcasters that are required to invest a lot of money in Canadian content. And then there are tax credits and our American dollars go farther here. I think historically maybe people didn’t respect Canadian content as much. And maybe there’s still a little bit of that in the background.

& Juliet, the playful, pop-infused musical that gives Shakespeare’s lovestruck heroine a second chance at life, has recouped its $17 million capitalization, the first new musical of the 2022-23 to do so, and only the fourth new musical to become profitable since the Covid pandemic shutdown.
“We’re so proud to be part of a show that brings so much joy to so many people,” the producers of & Juliet said in a joint statement. “It’s exciting to be part of the theater industry’s continuing recovery, and join a growing list of musicals that have recouped post-pandemic, which is further proof that nothing compares to live theater and the shared experience of human connection. We’re thrilled to continue to share our story of second chances with audiences across the globe.”

While viewers curse streaming platforms for canceling shows too early and not giving them another chance, they are just as quick to drop the entire series based on the impressions of the pilot episode. Although understandable, sometimes this logic deprives people of watching some of the best shows.
Here are 8 TV shows that redditors of the r/television subreddit dropped after watching only the pilot, but then picked up and grew to love.
Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)
Like most sitcoms, the pilot was just the writers testing the waters. It set up a backstory, put the characters in their niches, and was released with the hope that the show would hit the right spots for all genre fans. Fortunately, the brilliant cast and the talent of Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, were enough to get the show off the ground.

For a guy who admits he doesn’t enjoy the hassle of going through airport security and the inevitable inconveniences of international travel, Eugene Levy has been getting around quite a bit lately.
The actor, writer and Schitt’s Creek Emmy winner hopscotches throughout Europe – Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Scotland and more – in the second season of his nonfiction series The Reluctant Traveler, now streaming on Apple TV+. As the title of the series suggests, he’s not a “Heck yeah, I’m up for anything!” kind of guy, and part of the charm of the show is seeing him tiptoe beyond his comfort zone.
Levy joins the latest edition of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast to discuss what he’s learned about the world and himself while making the show, which is in contention for Emmy consideration. He also explains what finally convinced him to sign onto the series after he turned it down initially.

There is something so delicious about biting into a comedy from the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock universe. “30 Rock,” of course, was the gold standard — and a show I find myself still quoting to this day. Team the Fey camp with Meredith Scardino, who cut her teeth on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” and you get “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” another landmark show that helped Netflix define its smart comedy brand early in that streamer’s life.
Scardino was also part of the Fey/Carlock collab that gave us NBC’s “Mr. Mayor,” and I am still a bit angry that not enough people tuned into that sharp series. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.
But that’s not what this column is about. Yes, the short life of “Mr. Mayor” still stings. Instead,...

Here in the USA, we tend to cling to certain stereotypes about our Canadian neighbors. That they’re exceptionally polite. That they’re obsessed with ice hockey. That they say the word “eh” a lot. Some of that may even be true. But there’s one cliché aboot — um, about — the Great White North that turns out to be demonstrably false: The place is much more diverse than you might think.

Airing from 2005 to 2013, NBC’s The Office has become one of the most beloved sitcoms not only on the network, but rather in the overall TV shows’ history. Millions of fans around the world constantly revise the adventures of the Dunder Mifflin employees.
However, few of them know that, back in 2010, NBC released a similar show about the hilarious office workers and the difficulties of managing them. Some Reddit users still hail it and complain about its rapid conclusion after one 22-episode season.
The series’ plot revolves around Todd Dempsy, an executive manager at Mid American Novelties, a company that sells novelty items of various degrees of uselessness. His calm life is turned upside down when he’s relocated to India to run an outsourced call center.
There Todd realizes that the employees are completely unaware of American popular culture, while he himself struggles to get used to Indian one.

Larry David’s beloved comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is gearing up for a grand showing at the Primetime Emmys. The 12th and final season of the HBO/Max series has submitted for 35 nominations, including the top prize for outstanding comedy series.
Playing a fictionalized version of himself, David is again vying for the lead comedy actor category. He hopes to unseat last year’s winner and current frontrunner, Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear.” Though David is a two-time Emmy winner for writing and creating “Seinfeld,” he has yet to win as an actor despite six nominations, the last of which came in 2008.
Supporting actors J.B. Smoove, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, two-time former nominee Cheryl Hines and Tracey Ullman will also compete in the main acting categories, as well as a posthumous submission for Richard Lewis, who died in February.

As far as individual authors go, Stephen King is certainly in the top of the list of authors whose works have been adapted. He is right there with Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, and other authors whose works have been adapted often and in many forms. But unlike the aforementioned authors, King’s adaptations are usually original, while the other authors have seen their works adapted and remade more than once. In light of that fact, we can confirm that King’s story, “The Monkey,” had been adapted into a film this spring and the movie was presented to buyers at Cannes this year!
Knowing how popular King’s adaptations are, it was a sure thing that someone would buy the movie, and as it happens, Neon managed to nab the distribution rights for the upcoming movie and they have confirmed that a 2025 release date is currently planned.

Three horror powerhouses are coming together for The Monkey, an adaptation of the Stephen King story that’s being produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins.
Deadline reports this weekend that Neon has acquired the movie “following a multi-buyer tug of war,” further establishing themselves as horror powerhouses in their own right.
“Multiple U.S. distributors came in hot for the project after its newest promo [in Cannes] and we hear a deal settled in the high seven figures,” Deadline notes in their report.
You can expect Neon to release The Monkey sometime in 2025.
The Monkey is a short horror story that appeared in Skeleton Crew, a 1985 collection that also featured The Mist, The Jaunt, The Raft, Survivor Type, The Reach, and more.

Nominee Ashley McBryde and actor Noah Reid stole the show while presenting Single of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. The pair performed parodies of this year’s nominees while presenting the award.
Reid has sung a bit on both Outer Range and, most memorably, on Schitt’s Creek, which McBryde complimented at the beginning of their time on stage. Reid said he was nervous presenting at the show, so McBryde pulled out a ukulele and launched into a version of Parker McCollum’s “Burn It Down,” this time about Reid being new in town.
