I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. Like horror, science fiction lends itself well to serialization. Fans of the genre love the chance to explore fantastical worlds far from our own, and once storytellers have developed a brand-new universe, those fans love having a reason to come back. From "Star Trek" to "Star Wars" (which are quite similar), from "The Terminator" to "The Thing," sci-fi franchises can spawn from anything given a strong enough premise.
Moviemaking takes time, though, and we also live in a world where projects are announced many years in advance. This can all make it frustrating to be a fan of sci-fi, often having to wait years to be able to return to a series that you love, even though new installments are constantly dangled over your head. While we're waiting for the next great sci-fi original to spark a new franchise, we've rounded up some of the sci-fi sequels that we simply...

The final trailer for Alien: Romulus has just dropped, revealing an exciting array of new footage from the impending sci-fi horror film! One standout scene in the trailer is the brutal chestburster sequence, which director Fede Alvarez has been teasing. While the trailer shows a bit more of this scene’s brutality, it keeps some details under wraps, ensuring that audiences will squirm in their seats. Bringing Back the Original Horror The essence of Alien: Romulus takes the phenomenally successful ‘Alien’ franchise back to its roots, creating a similar sense of dread and suspense that Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic mastered. A final trailer for this August’s Alien: Romulus has landed, and it contains a lot more gore and swearing. You have been warned…
A new Alien: Romulus trailer has landed! We’re in a bit of a hurry, so we’ll just plonk the embed here and come back with a few more thoughts later.
Here’s the trailer from before too. We’d argue it gives quite a lot away, though, so bear that in mind if you’ve already decided to buy a cinema ticket. Also there’s quite a lot of swearing, so that’s something else to consider if you happen to be sitting in a busy office or something.
Take it away, director Fede Alvarez…
Our original story follows.
We’ve been following the development of Alien: Romulus with interest, but also with a bit of concern. The franchise, which started with Ridley Scott’s pretty perfect 1979 film Alien,...

The Alien franchise has a lot of scary elements: the uncaring company Weyland-Yutani, androids that look like humans, and, oh yeah, freaking Xenomorphs, based on an unnerving design by Swiss artist H.R. Giger. Underpinning many of these things is a fear of rape and pregnancy, especially inflicted upon men.
Many have written about how the first chestburster scene in Alien represents a man giving horrific birth, after being violated by a facehugger. Ash’s analysis of the facehugger in that movie gave viewers a sense of how the creature worked, including a tube that ran down the victim’s throat. But, at that point, director Ridley Scott apparently figured the audience had been traumatized enough, so he didn’t show the tube going into Kane.

The final trailer for Alien: Romulus has been released (via SFFGazette.com), and if you're not a fan of gore, then you might want to turn away now.
In this sneak peek (which runs for just shy of 3 minutes), we see the movie's human cast exploring the Romulus for a heist which we're guessing will set them up for life. Unfortunately, given the current monstrous occupants of the ship, they may not have long left to live!
This is perhaps the most spoilery look at the movie to date as we watch the Facehuggers and a Chestburster make short work of Alien: Romulus' human cast. The Xenomorph is shown sparingly, though the trailer ends with it shown off in all its horrifying - and terrifying - glory.
While Deadpool & Wolverine is understandably commanding everyone's attention right now, this looks like it could be one of the summer's biggest hits and...

When Empire spoke to Fede Álvarez, director of Alien: Romulus, last month, the man behind 2013's gnarly Evil Dead reboot and subversive 2016 home invasion chiller Don't Breathe revealed the Alien-meets-Aliens aspirations of his hotly anticipated upcoming sci-fi horror movie. And if the final facehugger-filled, chestburster-packed, incredibly creepy trailer for Álvarez's new entry in the Alien saga is anything to go by, then it looks like he's absolutely nailed the assignment here. Check it out:
Give us a minute — that was intense! The trailer kicks off slowly, forebodingly, with a reminder of Alien: Romulus' set-up as we meet Cailee Spaeny's Rain Carradine, leader of a scavenger crew — including David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu — whose time-sensitive heist plans are scuppered when they come face-to-face(hugger) with their target ship Romulus' xonomorph-y denizens. "Whatever comes, we'll face it together." Run!! 20th Century Studios has unveiled the second & final trailer for the next new solo Alien film - officially titled Alien: Romulus. Produced by Ridley Scott, and directed by Uruguayan horror mastermind Fede Alvarez, this is taking the franchise back to its roots with one crew on one ship. Set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), this follow a group of young people on a derelict space station, who end up in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe. It stars Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, & Aileen Wu. All of these official trailers for this movie have been especially awesome - I'm thoroughly excited and ready to rock with this (here's a featurette). It looks gorgeous, it looks scary, it looks intense. Everything I want in an Alien movie - and hopefully more surprises in store.

Is there any hope for Fede Álvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus” in the disappointing 2024 summer box office? After all, the long-running sci-fi horror franchise isn’t exactly a hot property. It’s been seven years since Ridley Scott‘s ho-hum “Alien: Covenant,” and almost thirty years since a sequel not a part of Scott’s “Prometheus” saga. And harsher critics may be even more severe: has there been a good “Alien” movie since James Cameron‘s lauded 1986 sequel “Aliens“?

Get ready to scream: the final "Alien: Romulus" trailer is here and it's scary as hell. This lengthy trailer (it's almost three minutes long) goes very heavy on the horror, making it clear that writer-director Fede Alvarez has cooked up something very, very scary here. This isn't surprising — while many of the "Alien" sequels lean heavy on action, especially James Cameron's "Aliens," the first "Alien" is a full-blown horror movie, and that seems to be the case here, too. In this new take on the material, a team of space scavengers run afoul of some slimy Xenomorphs, and things go bad very, very quickly.
Watch the trailer above.

I'm of the opinion that there are no bad "Alien" movies. I think all of them are worth merit, and yes, that includes Ridley Scott's two prequel entries.

The less practical they are as actual popcorn buckets, the cooler movie-themed popcorn buckets tend to be. They’re all the rage at the moment, with theater chains including AMC, Regal and Cinemark supplementing their income by selling creative popcorn buckets for big time movies like Barbie and (most famously) Dune. Previously and very briefly known as Alien: Neverland, Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show is now called Alien: Earth.
After reports that Noah Hawley’s Alien TV show was to be called Alien: Neverland, it now seems that Hawley and FX have gone in a different direction, calling the upcoming series Alien: Earth instead.
The Alien: Neverland title floated around in June, but Hawley confirmed the title in an interview with Variety after producer John Landgraf revealed the title in a separate interview.
Speaking to Variety after the Emmy nominations, Hawley confirmed that production on Alien: Earth had now been completed and the grind to finish the visual effects is now beginning.
“It’s a very big show. It’s nice to have some time with it,” Hawley said. “The first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not up against the wall in terms of time.

In space nobody can hear you scream — but all bets are off back on Earth. With Fede Álvarez's Alien-meets-Aliens hybrid Alien: Romulus just weeks away from hitting cinemas, more news is starting to trickle through on Noah Hawley's upcoming xenomorph series. Per THR's reporting, Hawley has just wrapped filming on his long-gestating Alien series, whose title has now been revealed to be Alien: Earth.
“We are wrapped — just wrapped,” Hawley told THR, revealing that he's knees deep in the post-production process on the show, figuring out the series' VFX elements as Alien: Earth's long road to our screens finally nears its end. Between the pandemic and last year's SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, by the time Hawley's take on Ridley Scott's seminal sci-fi franchise arrives (presumably sometime next year) it will have been half a decade since the project — which takes place in the late...

The novelty popcorn bucket brigades have a new contender. Joining buckets from Dune and Deadpool & Wolverine is a new design from the forthcoming Alien: Romulus.
Cinemark have unveiled the popcorn bucket, which is a Xenomorph head, including the long protruding back of the head. The popcorn is loaded in the top and the moviegoer can put their arm in the bottom of the bucket.
Fede Álvarez is directing this latest in the franchise. The cast includes Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun) and newcomer Aileen Wu. They are a group of young space colonizers who encounter you know who.
This is the first new entry in the franchise since Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant in 2017. It is set between Alien and Aliens on the timeline.

Get ready fans, the Alien franchise is getting super scary and super cool! Noah Hawley, the director known for Fargo, is working on a new Alien TV show for FX called Alien: Earth. It takes place about 30 years before the first movie and brings the nasty aliens called Xenomorphs to our planet.
They just finished filming and it sounds awesome. Hawley said in an interview that they “just wrapped production” which means they’re done shooting all the episodes. Now comes the fun part where they add all the crazy alien effects. Hawley was really excited to start working on that part too.
The show is all about the scary company called Weyland-Yutani that’s always trying to capture aliens. There’s a main character named Wendy who is part human and part robot. She gets mixed up with Weyland-Yutani’s plans to study aliens and create new lifeforms. Sounds like trouble!

As you can see, the Alien: Romulus popcorn bucket is a reproduction of the head of a Xenomorph, but somewhat surprisingly, they’ve chosen to put a lid on the top of the head for the popcorn rather than using the mouth. Feels like a missed opportunity. Are they too worried people are trying to have sex with these things?

Director Fede Alvarez has said on multiple occasions that Alien: Romulus is a movie that borrows heavily from Alien and Aliens, but that doesn't mean he won't be bringing his own ideas to the table.
During a recent conversation with Total Film (via SFFGazette.com), the filmmaker explained how nature documentaries factored into how he directed the puppeteers responsible for breathing life into the Xenomorphs and, more specifically, the Chestbursters.
"It is done almost like a nature documentary," Alvarez tells the site. "While we were seeing it on set we were joking, [like] 'The creature is coming out slow. It's looking for the scent of the mother...' The creature's not trying to be scary."
"The creature is trying to get the fuck out of that cocoon, that happens to be a person. It's almost like this is more realistic in a way, but without betraying all the beautiful things of the original designs.

Among them is Madame Web and Superman star Isabela Merced. She plays Kay in the movie and is the youngest member of this group.
"I really do believe that there are specific sequences in this film that will scar some kids that sneak into the movie for life," the actress tells Total Film.
Her co-star, David Jonsson, adds, "You can definitely say goodbye to a [PG-13]. The halfway house with Fede [Álvarez, director] is just not his style. If you’re going to try and scare people, then you scare them."
"He doesn’t know how to not put that spin on it," Cailee Spaeny notes. "That is just his instinct.

Alien: Romulus has understandably become one of this summer's most highly anticipated movies. Based on what we've seen thus far, all signs point to it following in the footsteps of Prey (Hulu's 2022 Predator reboot) as a return to form for the franchise.
