Mother, Couch is the type of movie with a jaw-dropping cast that you keep hoping and praying gets better but never turns that corner. And that’s saying something for a film that mercifully ends around the 90-minute mark. The film has worthy performances, particularly from its star, Ewan McGregor, who does what he can to elevate the material.
However, Mother, Couch is more interested in its existential mood than in what will draw the audience in. The story is not engaging or interesting, and, for that matter, entertaining is the story. That’s the one thing about some first-time directors—they forget their audience.

Years go by, but one thing doesn't change – Netflix often cancels shows that viewers like. Sometimes, the company's executives don't even let the creators finish the story.
This year, however, the picture is more positive – three of the four shows Netflix has canceled so far are ending right on schedule.
1. Sweet Tooth, 2021-2024
On June 6, the third and final season of Sweet Tooth was released – a cozy, colorful and slightly naive version of the post-apocalypse. And now this is the perfect option for binge-watching – the third season received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Earth has been struck by a strain of an unknown virus. Along with the epidemic, children were subjected to mutations, being born half-human and half-animal. The charming deer-horned hybrid Gus was hidden from the dangers of the outside world by his father in the depths of a national park, but after the death of his father, the boy must...

When TV academy voters sit down to fill out their 2024 Emmy nominations ballots, they have to consider 73 shows for Best Comedy Series; this is down by 22 contenders from last year. As was the case last year, each member’s selections may not exceed the number of eventual nominations in a given category, which will be eight in this case.
On its quest for a second consecutive victory here, “The Bear” will have to fend off just two of its seven 2023 rivals: “Abbott Elementary” and “Only Murders in the Building.” Last year’s remaining contenders that did not air episodes during the June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 eligibility period are “Barry,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Wednesday,” the last of which is the only one known to have a new season in the works.

Michelle Yeoh is an iconic and veteran actress who made a name for herself by starring in Hollywood movies as far back as the 1980s. Hailing from Malaysia, this actress decided that Asian culture needed to be represented more accurately and she breached every Asian stereotype out there with her iconic performance.

Taking a break from acting, Yeoh would come to realize years later that had she stayed in the marriage, it would have cost her her fame, worldwide love, and an Oscar!

One year after “Everything Everywhere All at Once” became the third film to ever merit three acting Oscars, the recipients of those trophies all have their sights set on Emmy glory. As candidates in three separate 2024 races, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan are headed for an exciting reunion that could very well lead to one or more of them winning the TV academy’s favor in September.
Curtis, whose Oscar victory caught more predictors by surprise than those of her two cast mates, is now the strongest Emmy contender of the three according to our racetrack odds. Indeed, her guest stint as alcoholic mother Donna Berzatto on the FX comedy series “The Bear” is widely expected to bring her her first Emmy win, even in the face of formidable opponents from the same show (like Olivia Colman and Sarah Paulson) and returning champion Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live...

Last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes came as a surprise and stalled the release of most movies and TV shows that were at least co-produced in the US. Now that the strikes have ended and the studios have been given the green light to resume production, 2024 seems pretty overwhelming with the sheer number of shows that have joined the streaming services' libraries.

In case you did not know, a Blade Runner series is in the works and has been shooting since April. Titled Blade Runner 2099, the series was revealed to be in the works in 2021, when Ridley Scott himself confirmed that a pilot and the series’ bible (a reference book for a series with relevant plot and character data) had been written. The series was officially announced in 2022 when the title was also revealed. Filming was set to begin in 2023 but was postponed to April 2024 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which paralyzed the entertainment industry for a longer period of time. Now, knowing that the series is currently being filmed, we can also confirm that we have some exciting casting updates.
The Blade Runner franchise wasn’t a franchise initially. It started off as a standalone movie directed by Scott, which starred Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer in the main roles.

Before you do, be sure to scroll through our photo gallery showcasing the men who are most likely to earn slots in the 76th annual lineup. Naturally, “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is widely expected to achieve a second consecutive victory and thereby maintain his perfect Emmys record.
White would be the fourth actor in 10 years to earn this specific award for both of his show’s first two seasons, following Jeffrey Tambor, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis.
The only other 2023 comedy actor nominee in the running again this year is Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”). The sitcom “Girls5eva” follows the attempted comeback of a fictional girl group that peaked in the early 2000s, now reunited as middle-aged women. But headed into its third season, it’s “Girls5eva,” not just Girls5eva, that’s trying to start anew. After two critically acclaimed, if evidently little-watched, seasons on Peacock, the show has been resurrected by Netflix, which has bankrolled a fresh batch of episodes and made the entire back catalog available to its massive audience of over 260 million global subscribers — many of whom will encounter “Girls5eva” for the first time as a Netflix original.

Starting today, three seasons of Girls5eva — the Tina Fey-produced comedy starring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell as members of a one-hit wonder pop group struggling to mount a comeback in middle age — are streaming on Netflix. The average subscriber will be forgiven for assuming the show, is, and always was, a Netflix original they just never noticed before, especially since the third season features a couple of meta jokes about being on the streaming giant. Emma Stone’s winning moment at the Oscars for Best Actress was met with a lot of confusion. First, the dress broke as she walked up the stage to receive her award. Second, Michelle Yeoh, presenting the award with Jennifer Lawrence along with other talented members of the industry, initially hesitated to give Stone the award directly and instead gave it to Jennifer Lawrence.
Although the moment accounted for an awkward one, many speculated why it might have happened. But lo and behold, the Everything Everywhere All at Once actress herself cleared the air by chiming in on Instagram.

The Brothers Sun may not get another season on Netflix, but there’s plenty more to enjoy from the stars Justin Chien and Sam Song Li, who played the titular siblings, Charles and Bruce. The performers stopped by TV Insider’s New York City offices for a round of Knock Your Blocks Off, where they had a chance to share their own TV interests, reveal interesting behind-the-scenes facts, and much more. As they dig into the stack of question-covered blocks, Chien is the first one up, pulling a block posing the question of which fictional character he’d like to fight. (Credit: Courtesy of Netflix) The prompt fitting for the star of a show that features plenty of action leads Chien to answer, “I’d want to fight Kendall Roy in Succession,” in reference to Jeremy Strong‘s character in the former HBO hit. “Because you’d be the eldest boy,...

In recent years, Netflix has picked up something of a reputation for cancelling shows in their early stages. In recent years, their live-action Cowboy Bebop, Mike Flanagan spook-fest The Midnight Club, and ghost-busting YA drama Lockwood & Co are among those shows to have been cut down after a single season. But the streamer is keen – possibly keener than ever, in a week that’s seen The Brothers Sun confirmed for the Netflix scrap pile – to stress to Avatar: The Last Airbender fans that their live-action take on the Nickelodeon show isn’t going anywhere. Season 1 has evidently been a hit – and so Season 2 and Season 3 will both be in the works.
As revealed on social media, there’ll be more from Aang and friends down the line – with a poster teasing Earth and Fire emblems for Seasons 2 and 3, respectively. The plan seems to be that Season 3 will mark the final run of the show,...

Netflix has officially renewed their live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons.
The live-action adaptation of the popular animated TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Netflix less than two weeks ago, but has proven to be very popular with Netflix users.
Netflix reports that the show gathered 41.1 million views in its first 11 days and reached the number 1 spot in 76 countries.
There’s more Avatar in our future too. Netflix has renewed the series for another two seasons to wrap up the story of Aang, a 12-year-old boy who can master all the elements in a world that has been divided into four distinct nations according to the elements.
Very few plot details are available at this time but the press email does promise that the following seasons will “bring The Legend of Aang to its proper conclusion.”

The Brothers Sun premiered on Netflix on January 4 and just a few days ago, the show was revealed to be cancelled after one season by the streaming giant. The show offered a darkly comedic unraveling of a secret turf war between crime factions experienced through a naive son in one of the families. The series received a fresh critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a high viewer score. In the review from our own Alex Maidy, he said, “The Brothers Sun could be the first solid binge of 2024. With a good amount of action, a great amount of heart, and characters worth investing in, this series manages to blend elements of the series Netflix has been importing for years with an original story rooted in Hollywood storytelling.”

The sun sets on yet another Netflix production, as it has been announced that The Brothers Sun has been canceled after just one season.
The Brothers Sun received high praise for its handling of material both intense and sweet, but as we all know that is hardly ever enough to ensure a series gets a second season. And so those that watched the series will only ever have those eight episodes, which all hit Netflix at the beginning of the year.
Co-created by Byron Wu and frequent Ryan Murphy collaborator Brad Falchuk, The Brothers Sun was a perfect follow-up to Everything Everywhere All at Once for Michelle Yeoh, as it also meshed genres (though not as wildly) and gave the star a space to expand her Western audience base. Unfortunately, this didn’t have the impact it hoped for and, despite a spot on the streaming service’s top 10 for a stint,...

The highly acclaimed and star-studded television series The Brothers Sun will not be returning to Netflix for a second season. The announcement of the show’s cancellation comes nearly two months after its premiere on January 4. This American action dramedy series centered around Taiwanese organized crime in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley. Chein plays Charles Sun, a Taipei gangster who must travel to L.A. to protect his mother (Yeoh) and his unaware younger brother (Li) after his father is shot. Even though the Everything Everywhere All at Once actor received praise for her role in the series, and the series did spend a couple weeks in the top 10 of Netflix’s English speaking series, The Brothers Sun did not land a strong enough audience,...
