This article contains spoilers for "Twisters."
As the title suggests, the main attraction in "Twisters" are the multiple tornadoes, forces of nature that range from EF1s to terrifyingly disastrous EF5s. Given that the film's story involves several groups of storm chasers tooling around Oklahoma, attempting to devise a way of mitigating a tornado once it's formed, it would seem likely that director Lee Isaac Chung's biggest influences on the film would include other natural disaster movies, adventure films, and so on.
Yet, just like the original "Twister," "Twisters" has more going on beneath the surface. Just as storm chasers Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Tyler (Glen Powell), and Javi (Anthony Ramos) are struggling with various ethical issues surrounding the study of tornadoes and how to best help with the after effects of their arrival, they're also caught in a love triangle, with Kate fielding longtime colleague and friend Javi's...

Liam Neeson, a foundational pillar of the Hollywood action scene, found himself turning into an overnight fan favorite after his ultra-violent arc as the father-turned-vigilante in the Taken trilogy. The film, although profiting off of Neeson’s iconic gruff voice and imposing presence, also made it his career’s magnum opus, and the role he would be most remembered by.

It then becomes a somewhat bitter pill to swallow when, in hindsight, one watches Neeson in films like Love Actually that go completely against his established reputation as the hunter-predator. As such, the genre of romance paired with the features of Liam Neeson is in itself an oxymoron.

Now showing, this week’s film quiz features questions on animated heroes, real-life villains, and fictional movies within movies.
There are a couple of movies about making movies out now – MaXXXine sees Mia Goth’s aspiring movie star bag a role in a 1980s horror sequel, while Fly Me To The Moon has Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stage moon-landing footage as a Plan B for NASA in 1969. Accordingly, this week’s film quiz has a whole round on fictional films within real films – think more The Purple Rose Of Cairo in The Purple Rose Of Cairo than “Argo”in Argo.
Once you’ve completed all three rounds, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. As always, this is all just for fun, but please let us know how you did in the comments (scores out of 30 this week!

Hugh Grant is “miserable” due to the closure of his local movie theater.
The actor lamented Cineworld’s decision to close a quarter of its cinemas in the U.K., including his own Fulham Rd outpost.
“Fulham Rd cinema closing after 94 years. Strangely unbearable,” Grant posted on X. “Let’s all sit at home and watch ‘content’ on ‘streaming.’ While scrolling. Miserable face emoji.”
Actor Michael Warburton commented on Grant’s post, writing, “Part of my Cinema-going history for sure and therefore damnably sad & infuriating in equal measure. Once these palaces are gone they don’t come back people!”
Of course, Grant isn’t entirely removed from the shift in entertainment industry business models, as his recent film “Unfrosted” debuted solely on Netflix. His additional roles in “Wonka” and the upcoming horror film “Heretic” both have theatrical releases. Grant is also reprising his beloved role in the latest “Bridget Jones” franchise installment,...

At 47, the actress feels the time for such scenes has passed, expressing her feelings candidly during an interview on BBC Breakfast. In the chat, she humorously noted, I just hope that I haven’t signed on to be running around on Barry beach in a bikini because I’m not doing that at 47., establishing a clear boundary despite her previous role in less attire for the 2003 rom-com, Love Actually. Bob Odenkirk is unarguably one of the most talented actors in the entire entertainment industry, having worked in masterpieces among the likes of the Better Call Saul television series. But when it comes to getting appreciated by the Academy, he has been left holding on to mere nominations, never really making it to the winning stage. And as it turns out, he isn’t the only one.

Surprisingly enough, one other actor, who has starred in the superhit The Walking Dead television series, has faced a similar fate. This actor is none other than Andrew Lincoln, who, quite literally, gave some of the best performances of his lifetime in this respective series but failed even to get acknowledged by the Academy. And fans are anything but happy about this.

The star of Notting Hill, Love Actually, and Paddington 2 leading an A24 horror joint? Hugh’d better believe it, buddy! After a run of increasingly villainous roles in the likes of The Gentlemen, The Undoing, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, Hugh Grant is going full horror big bad in A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods' Heretic. Don't believe us? Just check out the trailer below;
What did we tell you? Seriously disturbing, indeed. The makers of five of this year’s buzzy animated features—“Spellbound,” “That Christmas,” “The Imaginary,” “Ultraman: Rising” and “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl”–participated in the Variety FYC Animation Preview at last week’s Annecy Animation Festival, showcasing a range of stories and animation styles during a broad discussion about their movies, creative process and business. The long-running animated cartoon series "Adventure Time" really was a show like no other, exploring the magical post-apocalyptic world of Ooo with Finn (Jeremy Shada) and Jake (Joe Dimaggio), a human boy and shapeshifting dog. It's an epic, sprawling story with an incredible voice cast that help to bring all of the colorful and unique characters to life, and that means there's some crossover with other popular movies and TV shows — heck, Dimaggio's voice is incredibly well-known in the animation world as the heavy-drinking bending robot Bender on "Futurama." But there's one connection people might not realize, and it's a pretty fun one!

Two decades after Love Actually became a fixture of winter movie nights, Richard Curtis is returning to the Christmas spirit. Curtis co-wrote the script with Peter Souter, and the voice cast is positively delectable.

And regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope that audiences will laugh at the family dynamics and identify with the universal truth behind most traditions: It’s ultimately not about the rules and the expectations we put on these events — we tend...

It was almost exactly one year ago when we learned that Hugh Grant – whose credits include Notting Hill, Love Actually, Wonka, and Unfrosted – had signed on to star in the A24 horror film Heretic, which is coming our way from the writing and directing duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Now Deadline reports that A24 is planning to give Heretic a wide theatrical release on November 15th.
Details are scarce, but the story has something to do with two missionaries that attempt to convert a dangerous man. Here’s how Deadline describes it: Two young missionaries become ensnared in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse after they knock on the wrong front door.
There’s no word on who Grant plays in this scenario, but it would be very cool to see him take on the role of the dangerous man, and it seems likely that we’re going to.

Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

Keira Knightley was critical about wearing corsets for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, despite admitting that it was an easy way to slip into the character of a royal woman. She believed that women should have burned these dresses centuries ago. While the actress’s view about the constricting garment remained the same even after all these years, she has come to accept the vitality of the costume for the character.
Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley was vocal about her hate for corsets
Knightley was just 18 when she was cast in the role of Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Apart from the challenging costumes, she also revealed that she was forced to do some stunts that she wasn’t trained for in the movie.

The Star Wars film series is still expanding and has grown in recognition over the years. Innumerable actors have contributed to the property as the galaxy far, far away continues to grow through projects for both small and large screens. Some of them even lose track of how they came to be cast in the first place. Take Keira Knightley, for example.
Known for her acclaimed performances in Pride and Prejudice and The Imitation Game, the actress, 39, also had a role in the Star Wars film franchise that was a long-kept secret.

Surprisingly, Knightley’s involvement in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) wasn’t a big deal at the time, as she was not a known face playing a bit part in the background. Even more intriguingly, she was cast for the role because of how much she resembled Natalie Portman when...

Hugh Grant’s remarkable ability to walk in the shoes of a hopeless romantic makes the audience swoon with every look and every dialogue that his characters convey. The British star has a lot of these characters in his old Hollywood roster to claim a credible authority over the genre of rom-coms as a whole.
However, it wasn’t until Four Weddings and a Funeral that he became the unofficial face of the charming lover boy that rom-com directors tripped head over heels for. Directed by the esteemed Richard Curtis, the 1994 film established Grant in Hollywood as the British counterpart of Tom Hanks, who was at the time equally famous for his rom-com films.

Hugh Grant was one of the quintessential rom-com leading men of the 90s among the likes of Richard Gere and Leonardo DiCaprio. He was a popular heartthrob who managed to impress fans with his natural charm and his nonchalant humor. His roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Love Actually made audiences swoon in the 90s and early 2000s.
Hugh Grant as William Thacker in Notting Hill
Another one of Grant’s popular films was 2002’s Two Weeks Notice where he was paired with Sandra Bullock. The duo had met five years prior and they had discussed working together. But Grant made a pretty bad impression on Bullock by narrating what he calls a ‘disgusting story’, which led to Grant not hearing from the actress for over 3 years.

English actor Andrew Lincoln came into prominence with shows like This Life and Teachers, before becoming popular because of his role in the Christmas rom-com, Love Actually (2003). He played the role of a man in love with his best friend’s wife, opposite Kiera Knightley, and his confession was one for the books. That day, we all fell in love with Mark, and in extension, Andrew Lincoln.

Love is in the air in This Time Next Year, which is heading onto digital platforms this June. More on the film below.
It’s been a pretty good few months for fans of rom-coms. We’re still pretty amazed at just how well Anyone But You has done and we’re still now over Rye Lane’s emotional punch.
Now, Signature Entertainment has acquired the UK and Irish rights to Nick Moore’s rom-com This Time Next Year, as reported by Deadline. The film is written by Sophie Cousens, based on her own book and the film stars Sophie Cookson and Lucien Laviscount as the leads. John Hannah, Golda Rosheuvel, Monica Dolan, Mandip Gill and Anita Dobson also star.
Here’s the This Time Next Year trailer:
The film revolves around Minnie (Cookson) and Quinn (Laviscount), who discover they were born on the same day in the same hospital.

There are not a lot of actors in Hollywood whose presence itself on-screen exudes badassery. Liam Neeson has carved a unique niche for himself in the film industry, where directors and producers look up to him for serious roles. From Schindler’s List to Batman Begins, the actor has carefully picked feathers for his cap that are a testament to his effervescent acting abilities.
However, he often goes offbeat and picks up projects that show off a different side to his demanding presence on the silver screen, like he is about to do in his upcoming The Naked Gun Reboot.
