Grace states only five women over 40 have had number one singles, and only one who is African American: at the time of filming these were
Sia (aged 40),
Madonna (42),
Bette Midler (43),
Cher (52), and
Tina Turner (44). However,
Aretha Franklin (45) also hit number one, albeit on a duet with
George Michael, meaning technically two African American singers had achieved the feat. By the time the film was released
Mariah Carey (49) had also added to this number. In addition, at the time of filming
Sia was the most recent artist to achieve a number one aged over 40. She has worked extensively with both
Greg Kurstin, who wrote and produced songs for the soundtrack of this movie, and
Diplo, who has a small role in the film as producer R Dubs.
