Nick Nolte missed two big opportunities to be a significant name in pop culture. Despite his popularity as a leading man in the industry, the actor could not bag a chance to work with George Lucas, not once but twice. While many fans know he was a potential candidate to play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, he was also in the mix to play a prominent character in Star Wars.
Nick Nolte in The Deep | Columbia Pictures
After starting his career as a model, Nick Nolte got his big breakthrough an Emmy-nominated performance in the 1976 miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man. Following the show, the actor also went on to bag some prominent hits and critically appreciated roles like The Prince of Tides.
However, Nick Nolte’s journey to stardom could have been much easier, had he got to play Han Solo or Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’ 1977 space-opera flick.

In the epic new Peacock show Those About To Die, Dimitri Leonidas plays Scorpus, one of Rome’s top charioteers, and Gabriella Pession plays Antonia, a Patrician pulling many strings in this criminal underworld of ancient Rome.
We at FandomWire got to speak with Leonidas and Pession about their roles in Those About To Die, what the show has to say about ancient Rome, and filming the show using virtual production technology (like we’d seen in The Mandalorian and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). Check out the full interview here:

FandomWire: We’ve seen plenty of movies and shows about gladiators and charioteers, but I think what makes Those About To Die stand out is that it shows us a side of this that we’ve not really seen before.

Into the Badlands is “a high-octane sci-fi martial arts series” created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The AMC series is set in a dystopian future with humanity in ruins because of wars, and it follows the story of Sunny, a fierce warrior who rescues a teenager with a bounty on his head. They both journey through a dangerous territory known as the Badlands to survive. Into the Badlands stars Daniel Wu in the lead role, with Orla Brady, Sarah Bolger, Aramis Knight, Emily Beecham, Oliver Stark, Madeleine Mantock, Ally Ioannides, Marton Csokas, and Nick Frost starring in supporting roles. Into the Badlands is a unique series with a unique setting, and that’s why it is hard to find a series with a similar setting and story elements, but we have tried very hard to find shows with similar story elements and many high-octane action sequences.

Modern science fiction/fantasy films owe a lot to Star Wars, especially the CGI fest that were the Prequels. Without those films, it would have been impossible to have characters like the Na’vi in James Cameron’s Avatar or Thanos in the MCU.
Ahmed Best played Jar Jar Binks || Lucasfilm
Characters like Jar Jar Binks and Yoda are what made these other characters possible, showcasing how a CGI character can interact with the physical world. One of the best fights to show how this can be incorporated to make a great scene was the one between Yoda and Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones
As brilliant as the fight was, the credit for a lot of it goes to Ahmed Best, the actor responsible for playing one of the most reviled characters in the fandom. A character who is still used as an insult among fans, Best was...

Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi has become a fan-favorite character ever since the prequel trilogy and it’s easy to see why. Apart from being a Jedi Master, the actor’s charisma and understanding of his character seamlessly translates on the screen.
Ewan McGregor in Star Wars / Lucasfilm
McGregor has previously confessed his love for the Star Wars franchise despite its difficult beginnings. After all, the movies were made for the fans, especially for the kids who grew up watching the original trilogy.

Rogue One stands out from the rest of the entries in the Star Wars franchise, as it steers the story away from the conflict between the Jedi and Sith. It follows the story of Jyn Erso, a member of the Rebel Alliance, who is part of a group that steals the plans for the Death Star.

Despite its unique plot and mostly standalone nature, Rogue One was a critical and commercial success. However, the film nearly made one critical error that would have almost certainly ruined its impact on the audience and legacy. Here is how Rogue One narrowly avoided making a Death Star-sized blunder that has plagued the franchise.

HBO has long established itself as the premier forge of dramatic series on modern TV. Though it was difficult, we have chosen the ten best HBO shows of the past decade that, while they may not have repeated the stunning success of Game of Thrones, came to it as close as possible.

After being fan-cast in several different superhero/villain roles over the years, Giancarlo Esposito recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an undisclosed role.
We do know that Esposito will make his debut in Captain America: Brave New World, but despite set photos giving us a pretty good look at his mysterious character, we still weren't sure who he's playing.
Now, we may finally know which character he'll be suiting up as. According to Mttss, Esposito will be playing George Washington "G.W." Bridge!
In the comics, Bridge started out as a member of the mercenary group known as the Wild Pack (later Six Pack), which was led by Cable. He'd later become a high-ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D. as acting liaison on mutant affairs.
We don't think anyone guessed this particular character, since it was generally assumed that Esposito would be playing a full-blown villain.

The finale of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is just one episode away. Despite the strong showing in episode 5, episode 6 has slowed the momentum with its minimal action and slower pace.
‘The Acolyte’ has been losing viewers for two consecutive weeks. Following an initial 31% drop in “minutes watched,” the show lost an additional 11% last week. As a result, it has fallen out of the top 10 “most watched” shows, according to Luminate’s data provided by Variety.
This data is certainly surprising, given that Reelgood’s data, published by Screenrant, showed ‘The Acolyte’ as the second most popular show, surpassed only by ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi.’ However, as I noted in that article, the data was skewed to present ‘The Acolyte’ more favorably, covering only the first 14 days since its release when it was indeed quite popular.
So, why is ‘The Acolyte’ performing so poorly now? We can’t keep attributing it to review-bombing...

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’s’ finale is now a single episode away, and despite a rather strong episode 5, episode 6 undid most of the momentum and we’re back to a slow-paced, minimal-action episode.

HBO won the entertainment jackpot in 2023 with the stupendous success of the series The Last Of Us. Interestingly while preparing for the role, the star revealed that showrunner Craig Mazin had specific instructions for his cast to stay away from playing the game. Star Wars is an extensive franchise primarily known for its blockbuster movies but has also expanded into television shows and video games. Historically, animated shows have dominated, but since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, there has been a shift towards more live-action content.
Today, let’s explore Ranker, a popular site where fans rank a wide range of topics, including live-action Star Wars shows, to see which ones are currently considered the best. Please note that rankings can fluctuate, and the list may not reflect the most current voting trends on the site.

‘The Acolyte’ is the newest addition to the Star Wars franchise and has sparked significant controversy. The show has been both praised and criticized, making it challenging to assess objectively at this stage. It’s currently being scrutinized as potentially one of the weakest live-action shows, but with the series ongoing, its full impact remains to be seen.

Mercedes Moné, aka Sasha Banks, is one of the most successful professional wrestlers in the world. As is often the case, Hollywood comes calling when one reaches a certain level of success. That's precisely what happened when Moné was still wrestling under the name Sasha Banks for the WWE when Lucasfilm cast her on the live-action "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian." Given that this is one of the biggest, most beloved franchises on the planet, it was a big deal. But the WWE didn't make the gig easy on her. The organization actively tried to get in the way, it seems.

Two of the greatest sci-fi franchises have been the intergalactic space operas Star Trek and Star Wars. Maybe because both have ‘Star’ in their names or because of their themes of intergalactic travel, the two franchises have been rivals in the genre and have been competing to be the best.
While Star Trek has stuck to the TV space, Star Wars has found more success in the theatrical arena and has hence, attracted many Hollywood stars. However, one prominent star from George Lucas’ franchise was almost lost to Star Trek. Actress Rosario Dawson revealed that before Ahsoka, she was tapped to be a villain in Star Trek: Picard.

As we today, there's still nothing to suggest that Lucasfilm has renewed The Book of Boba Fett for a second season. With that in mind, it's looking increasingly unlikely that the iconic bounty hunter's story will continue in his own series.
Actor Temuera Morrison hasn't shied away from criticising the way he was left on the shelf when The Mandalorian season 3 rolled around and has even said Din Djarin taking centre stage in The Book of Boba Fett played a role in "ruining" the spin-off.
While harsh, it's a valid observation in some ways because an entire episode of the show was devoted to Din and Grogu. Both characters - and their heartfelt reunion - largely overshadowed Fett during the finale and became the main reason for many Star Wars fans to tune in.

Star Wars has a wide-reaching canon that is constantly evolving and expanding, with each new addition, with the latest being The Acolyte. However, following the massive backlash against the series, the franchise needs a clear win to appease the fanbase and also draw viewers back to the galaxy far, far away.
The Acolyte’s failure has fans demanding Ahsoka vs Starkiller (Credit: Lucasfilm).
On social media, one fan suggested that the franchise should pit Ahsoka against Starkiller, Darth Vader’s apprentice from the Legends. While Starkiller’s introduction to the canon has been teased in the past, it poses several issues that need to be resolved with his characterization. Here is why Ahsoka vs Starkiller makes sense for Star Wars after The Acolyte backlash.

Writer/director Christy Hall’s “Daddio” follows, in real-time, a 90-minute NYC cab ride from JFK airport to 44th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. During that period, the camera rarely leaves the taxi as driver Sean Penn and passenger Dakota Johnson get to know each other during an extended conversation that yields surprising revelations for both the characters and the audience. The strength of Hall’s dialogue is not surprising given her background as an acclaimed playwright, but what really makes “Daddio” work is the way the performances are served by the visual style, as the lights and colors of New York City play off of the actors’ faces in a hypnotic, almost musical fashion; Phedon Papamichael‘s dreamy cinematography keeps the city alive as a character outside without ever detracting from the emotional intimacy of what’s going on inside the cab.

Revenge of the Sith marks the conclusion of George Lucas’ prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies. The 2005 movie cemented Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side while setting up the events of the original trilogy. As a result, the film had plenty of ground to cover in a short amount of screen time. However, Lucas originally had a much longer cut of the film on hand.

Rumours have swirled about Giancarlo Esposito possibly boarding the MCU for a few years now. However, two characters who have repeatedly been mentioned by fans are Professor X and Magneto.
With Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot on the horizon, both seemed like a very real possibility. The Breaking Bad star has never shied away from playing into the rumours, though eventually admitted he'd like to play someone a little more proactive than Charles Xavier.
The actor will get his chance with what looks to be an action-packed role in Captain America: Brave New World. While Esposito has been spotted in set photos, we have no idea who he's playing; it does, however, seem like he's a mercenary tasked with taking down Sam Wilson.
Talking to ComicBook.com, The Mandalorian and The Boys star reflected on the rumours and speculation that previously surrounded him.

George Lucas’s interstellar adventures in a galaxy far, far away have run into their fair share of troubles in the real world too. After Pedro Pascal’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian introduced Giancarlo Esposito as a fan-favorite new villain, Moff Gideon in the Star Wars Universe, the actor has been the highlight of the series, for many fans. However, during the season 3 finale, Moff unfortunately met with his demise by being engulfed in an inferno of metal and flame.

Nonetheless, the death sequence seemed a bit too ambiguous for a lot of Star Wars fans, which prompted them to come up with theories supporting his survival. Now, as Jon Favreau is preparing for his upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film, Giancarlo Esposito expressed his desire to return as Moff Gideon, perhaps following fan theories. But, there appear mixed reactions regarding his return.

When you consider how long both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises have existed, the list of actors who have appeared in both is surprisingly short, but Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson came close to becoming part of that exclusive club.
While speaking at Fan Expo Boston, Dawson explained that she had been asked to do something in Star Trek but had to turn it down as she had just signed on to do Ahsoka. “I could have been one of Odo’s species, the changeling. I could have been an immortal puddle guys. Do you understand my pain (she said clenching her eyes tight). That would have been really cool,” Dawson said via The Telegram. “I also really pushed to be a ‘Q.’ My dad. That was my dad (donning a masculine voice and pointing to her dad in the audience), ‘Be Q.’ I’m like, I’m trying.

For years, stand-up comedy superstar Bill Burr mercilessly and hilariously mocked Star Wars and Star Wars fans. However, no one was laughing once Burr landed a role in Star Wars.
In Hollywood, it sure seems that every single performer who finds success on either side of the comedy/drama divide suddenly decides that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence as soon as they get famous. Every Oscar-winner thinks that they’re funny and secretly wants to guest star on Abbott Elementary. Conversely, every sitcom star who builds a name for themselves by busting guts makes their agent send them out for every meaty, serious and ill-fitting part in the newest A24 drama.
Stand-up comedians, however, exist entirely in their own sphere, where even their attempts to become comic actors can fail spectacularly, despite some assuming that the transition from stage to camera would be a natural one.
