The wait for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things continues but creators Ross and Matt Duffer are already looking ahead to a post-Stranger Things future. 1428 Elm has learned that as part of the Duffer brothers' overall deal with Netflix, they will executive produce a new psychological horror series alongside Hilary Leavitt under their production company Upside Down Pictures. Andrea Leavitt (Transparent) will also executive produce.
Titled Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, Netflix describes the project as an "atmospheric horror series" set in the lead-up to a wedding that sounds doomed from the start. As the title suggests, something is going to go terribly wrong.
Haley Z. Boston is the show's creator and will serve as showrunner, in addition to executive producing. Boston's previous credits include working as a staff writer on the Netflix Original series Brand New Cherry Flavor, based on the book by Todd Grimson.

Exclusive: Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to The Problem with People, a comedy co-written, produced by and starring Paul Reiser (Stranger Things). Also starring Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Jane Levy (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and Lucianne McEvoy (Red Eye), the film will be released in theaters on October 4th.
World premiering at last year’s Austin Film Festival, the film directed by Chris Cottam (A Christmas Number One) follows two distant cousins who’ve never met — one in NYC, the other in the smallest town there is in Ireland — who come together to finally put an end to a generations-long family feud… It doesn’t go well.
Reiser wrote the script with Wally Marzano-Lesnevich and produced alongside Max Brady and Cottam.
Said Reiser in a statement to Deadline, “This is the film I’ve wanted to make for years, and I am so proud of how it’s turned out.

In the world of anime, Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli unarguably holds an incredibly strong presence, having expanded its portfolio among the likes of fan-favorite projects like The Boy and the Heron and Howl’s Moving Castle. That said, what if this respective studio worked on taming animated projects for the Stranger Things and Harry Potter franchises?

Obviously, that sounds like a sweet sight to behold for all those anime fans out there. And, as it turns out, it just might be a pretty cool thing to witness. This comes after a fan account for the studio shared a series of concept art for J. K. Rowling’s tremendously beloved saga, followed by the fan artist sharing her own animated perspective on The Duffer Brothers’ iconic horror saga.

While Netflix has a lot to answer for after forging a world in which Kevin Hart's Lift becomes the number one most-watched film in the world, it's also got a lot to be proud of. Arguably the best thing to happen as a result of Netflix's domination of the streaming game has been the way in which global audiences have been exposed to films outside of their native countries. It happened when Spanish historical drama "Society of the Snow" -- which did what no other portrayal of the Andes disaster could -- was released on the streamer. Prior to that, "Dark," the German version of "Stranger Things" also became a global hit.
Therefore, it's fair to say that Netflix is about more than pumping out an overwhelming deluge of middling "content." This week, the streamer proved its power to elevate smaller international films to major heights, by taking what...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), is set to reach theatres on September 6th – and when it reaches the big screen, we’ll have the chance to see Winona Ryder reprise the role of Lydia Deetz, the first time in her career that she has been able to revisit a character in a sequel. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ryder revealed that her one condition when she agreed to star in the Netflix series Stranger Things back in 2015 was that, if the Beetlejuice sequel ever moved into production, the show’s creators the Duffer Brothers would have to let her clear her schedule and make the movie.
Ryder said (with thanks to Movieweb for the transcription), “At the time, Tim and I were talking about the Beetlejuice sequel. There have been moments over the last 15 years that we thought it was gonna happen but,...

Who could've foreseen the Duffer Brothers' 1980s-set love letter to Generation X's upbringing becoming a global sensation? "Stranger Things" is far removed from the humble nostalgic sci-fi horror series that quietly premiered on Netflix in the summer of 2016, with the property now encompassing novels, comic books, and video games, plus a stage play and a developing collection of spinoff series that includes an animated show. And of course, there's still one last season of the parent series to go -- one that will ideally arrive sometime before the "Stranger Things" kiddos are all in their 40s.
Due to companies like Netflix failing to reach a fair agreement with the people who make their films and TV series before the deadline last year, production on "Stranger Things" season 5 didn't start until January 2024 (just a couple of months after the actors strike of 2023 was finally settled). It’s the beginning of the end for “Stranger Things.”
Netflix unveiled the first look at the fifth and final season of its blockbuster sci-fi adventure series on Monday, with a behind-the-scenes video from the set that also revealed three new actors who are joining the show: Nell Fisher (“Evil Dead Rise”), Alex Breaux (“Waco: The Aftermath”) and newcomer Jake Connelly.

With Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con less than two weeks away, we're expecting a lot of lucky guesses masquerading as rumours to do the rounds about what's next for the MCU.
With that in mind, we'd recommend taking the following with a pinch of salt!
The trades recently confirmed that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has been offered the chance to helm Avengers 5, though it's since been claimed that he may pass on the movie formerly known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
According to The Streamr, Marvel Studios has found a director for Avengers 5. Whether that's Levy remains to be seen; however, the site believes he's been offered a handful of projects, with Avengers: Secret Wars, Armor Wars, and the X-Men reboot among the possibilities.
This feels like a "safe" guess on the site's part, particularly as Levy would be a good fit for any of them.

Winona Ryder has been trying to get a “Beetlejuice” sequel made for decades by meeting with director Tim Burton.
Just like how lead star Michael Keaton and Burton were kicking around ideas for a follow-up film, Ryder told Harper’s Bazaar that she was working with Burton in secret to make sure a sequel was greenlit. Now, more than 40 years after the original 1988 horror-comedy classic, Ryder and Keaton are both reprising their respective roles for Burton in sequel film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”

As Harper’s Bazaar added, “In the intervening decades, though, Ryder and Burton kept in touch, meeting secretly to discuss making a second ‘Beetlejuice.'”

Avengers 5 is rumored to have lost Michael Waldron, which would leave the project without a writer, director, and actor to play the villain.
Since it was first announced back in 2022, the fifth Avengers movie - then titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - has lost director Destin Daniel-Cretton (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), original writer Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), and star Jonathan Majors, who was set to play the main antagonist, Kang the Conqueror.
Now, Next Point News is reporting that Waldron has also parted ways with the film.
No reason was provided, but Waldron had been working on the story for a while, so it's reasonable to assume he either completed his draft or was very close to doing so. In which case, another scribe may be brought on to revise/touch-up the existing script.

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice opened up a whole lot of opportunities for Winona Ryder in Hollywood. However, the film almost cost her another critically acclaimed role in her career. Lydia Deetz was a weird character and Ryder had to ditch her looks to transform into the character. When she met with the makers of Heathers in the new look, they did not initially want her in the role.
