This year we, as horror fans, are going to be gifted with a film from director Oz Perkins. That movie is Longlegs and stars Maika Monroe as well as the fascinating actor Nicolas Cage. As anyone may know, Cage has starred in many different types of films, especially horror, and here, he stars as a serial killer who gives off some very Ghepetto-esque vibes. Regardless, we here at JoBlo will be there opening day for the film. As stated a minute ago, we recognize that Cage is vast in various types of genres…but this wasn’t his first dip in the pool of horror. Today on Horror Revisited, we are exploring Martin Scorsese’s underrated film Bringing Out the Dead (watch it Here), which stars Nicolas Cage in one of his most honest, endearing and albeit best roles. So, turn on the sirens, strap in and let’s tour...

After four seasons, Queen Latifah has established The Equalizer as a quality mainstay of epic entertainment proportions, but is that really that surprising?
It's Queen Latifah!
The Equalizer has certainly come a long way since it first premiered in 2021, but the show has only gotten better without ever losing sight of its source material or straying from the aspects of the series that make fans tune in every week.
While she could go back to her CIA days, Robyn prefers to balance her time as a badass vigilante in the Big Apple with being a cool mom to Delilah, her teenage daughter.
The show mixed things up over the first three seasons, especially by swapping out Chris Noth due to off-screen drama.

While “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull” basically put Martin Scorsese and Paul Schrader on the map as massive cinematic forces and “The Last Temptation of Christ” continues to have a strong cult following, as well as an early Criterion Collection release (Spine #70 to be exact), their final collaboration, 1999’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” starring Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette, still has yet to receive the praise and recognition of their previous works.
Paramount, the studio behind the film, seems to want to change that this upcoming September, as they plan on giving the psychological drama a 4K Uhd Blu-Ray release to coincide with its 25th anniversary. In reappraisal of this unfairly maligned capper to a multi-decade partnership, IndieWire lists our reasons for why “Bringing Out the Dead” is worth bringing out of the shadows.

“Data does not make a marketer great. Data is ingredients. Marketers are the chefs.” So said Patrizio Spagnoletto, Warner Bros. Discovery’s global chief marketing officer for direct to consumer, last week during Variety’s Cannes Lions studio presented by Canva.
Spagnoletto was among more than a dozen top executives who took on burning subjects for the global marketing and advertising sector in interviews recorded during the annual Cannes Lions Festival, held June 17-21. The festival is devoted to celebrating creativity and innovation in marketing and advertising. To do so, top players from a range of businesses gather in the south of France for a week of splashing money around and talking about the future of brand-building.
As such, Cannes Lions provides a once-a-year chance to gain insights from the biggest names in marketing. My London-based colleague Ellise Shafer joined me for three packed days of video interviews, all of...

After four successful seasons, Queen Latifah's Robyn McCall is not slowing down now in the exciting CBS show, The Equalizer.
It can't be easy to reimagine a role that the legendary Denzel Washington once played, but Queen Latifah does it with all the grace and strength of someone who has been in the television industry for over thirty years.
She has amassed over one hundred award nominations and thirty wins in her career, including two Critics' Choice awards, two Golden Globes, a Grammy, an Emmy, a People's Choice award, and three Screen Actors Guild awards.
Wouldn't you give her her own show?!
Queen Latifah is film and television royalty who continues to remind us of why she's an industry staple.
She is versatile enough to easily step into any genre, from action and drama to comedic and romantic.

Will Smith makes a return to form as he chalks up another summer hit in his resume with the recent success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The movie was a safe move for him, but it also a necessary litmus test to see if audiences were ready to re-accept him after his star dimmed following the Oscars slap controversy. The gamble paid off and the newest entry into the Martin Lawrence co-starring buddy cop comedy became one of the year’s biggest hits. Smith is not going to let this train slow down as he also is planning to make a return to the music world with new material for the first time since 2005’s Lost and Found album.

Elon Musk has predicted the chance of AI-related disaster at “10 to 20%,” while doubling down on free speech over advertiser demands for censorship.
Musk, speaking at Cannes Lions on Wednesday morning, said: “I tend to agree with Geoff Hinton – one of the godfathers of AI – and he thinks there’s a 10-20% probability of something terrible happening.”
Musk didn’t specify what he meant by “terrible,” instead adding: “The glass is 80% full. Look on the bright side.”
He went on: “I think the most likely outcome is one of abundance, where goods and services are available to anyone. There’s no shortage for any one of us. It would be a universal hike. Work would be optional.”
This could bring with it, he added, “a crisis of meaning.”

The Beastie Boys’ 1994 classic Ill Communication turns 30 this year and as part of the ongoing celebration, the band has partnered with Vevo for a special annotated version of the “Sabotage” video.
The clip — which is part of Vevo’s “Footnotes” series — is packed with facts about the classic Spike Jonze-directed clip, in which McA, Ad-Rock, and Mike D pay homage to Seventies cop shows. According to one of the annotations, Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) had long had the idea for a video where the band dressed up as undercover cops during a stakeout.

Queen Latifah has revealed she thought she would never make it in Hollywood, due to her look and size.
The rapper turned actor and entrepreneur was taking part in a discussion at the Cannes Lions Festival about how obesity is viewed, when she reflected on “the bar she thought she could never meet.”
She said: “I watched this idea of what beauty was supposed to be – size two, blue-eyed. That was being pushed on everyone as I was growing up. I thought that was a bar I was never going to meet.
The star of The Equalizer said she wondered how she was going to make it in the music industry “where there’s lots of pressure on everybody.”

When Kevin Daniels got a call from his agent’s mom that she’d pitched him for the lead role in a film she was producing, it didn’t take much for him to say “yes.”
“We had a zoom meeting and we kind of laughed and told some jokes and they were like, ‘Hey, you want to come down to Savannah?’ and I was like, ‘I like Savannah. That sounds nice,’” Daniels tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The film was Not Another Church Movie, a spoof comedy of Tyler Perry’s Madea series, written, directed and produced by Johnny Mack (Real Husbands of Hollywood), which is set to hit theaters on May 10. In it, Daniels, stars as the hardworking Taylor Pherry, a man given a mission directly from God (Jamie Foxx) to write a story about his dysfunctional family to save billionaire talk show host Hoprah Windfall’s plummeting TV ratings.

They gathered for their class photo at The Pierre New York hotel, wearing pieces that tackled the night’s “The Garden of Time” dress code and also speak to Browne’s laser-sharp vision and effortless cool. On display among the group of nine are nature details, plaid and a whole lot of black and white.

As has been the case in The Equalizer from the beginning, what Robyn (Queen Latifah) does and keeping that secret affects not just her, but those around her. And sure, Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) know, but Vi’s girlfriend, Trish (Gloria Rueben), remains in the dark—and that’s a source of conflict in that relationship right now. But given the scope of what Robyn does as she helps people using her skills as a former CIA operative, and that that’s something that she would then have to keep secret, there is the question of whether Trish would want to know. When TV Insider asked Gloria Reuben just that question, she confirmed she would. “I think honesty is key, and I think that she feels that way for sure. If secrets need to be kept in order to protect or honor certain parameters of someone’s extended family,...

Robyn McCall will continue righting wrongs for another season.
CBS has ordered a fifth season of The Equalizer, its drama series starring Queen Latifah (who also executive produces) as McCall, a former CIA operative turned freelance problem solver for people who have nowhere else to turn. The show is a reimagining of the 1985-89 series of the same name and not connected to the Denzel Washington-led film franchise that’s also inspired by the original series.
With the renewal, The Equalizer will pass the original series in the number of seasons it has aired (though not yet in episode count — the 1980s series ran for 88 episodes, and the current show will end this season with 56).
With the pickup of The Equalizer, CBS has only one scripted series — NCIS: Hawai’i — awaiting word on its future. The network plans to announce its 2023-24 schedule on May 2.

As Deadline reported last week, the renewal was fully expected, with the delay related to lead studio Universal Television negotiating a deal with Queen Latifah. It recently closed, paving the way to a renewal.
So far, The Equalizer‘s seasons had been capped at 18 episodes, which is something top talent often request when signing on for a broadcast drama series. There was an effort in the Queen Latifah negotiation to increase the number to 20 or more but I hear Season 5 will again consist of 18 episodes.
After Elsbeth renewed and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas canceled last week, NCIS: Hawai’i remains the only CBS scripted series in limbo.

As Deadline reported last week, Hawai’i’s future is said to be the subject of tough business conversations, with a partial Season 4 of 13 or fewer episodes still a possibility. It could be a final chapter for the show, the first installment in the NCIS franchise with a female lead.
The Equalizer has been a strong performer for CBS, currently ranking as the #8 most watched among all non-sports broadcast programs, averaging 7.89M linear viewers (in Nielsen most current data) and over 10 million viewers in Live+35 multi-platform viewership. It also is the #1 entertainment program among African Americans.

“The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
Co-produced by CBS Studios, The Equalizer is one of four drama series Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, makes for CBS, along with the three FBIs, all of which were also recently renewed, the flagship for three seasons.
A reimagining of the classic series, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.
Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes also star. Andrew Marlowe, Terri Edda Miller, co-showrunners Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Richard Lindheim (co-creator of the original series), Shakim Compere, Joseph C. Wilson and Loretha Jones are executive producers. The Equalizer airs on CBS and is available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
