'If Hyde Park is s***, then that's definitely it': Blur close BT London Live with a triumphant show... after admitting the band's future was hanging in the balance

They had admitted the band's future was hanging in the balance if they didn't get tonight's Hyde Park gig spot on.

But it would seem Blur had absolutely nothing to worry about after they performed a triumphant show to close the BT London Live series tonight.

Despite wowing a crowd of tens of thousands with their hit-packed set, the Parklife hitmakers expressed their doubt earlier today about headlining the huge outdoor gig.

Bass player Alex James told NME: 'Our focus at the moment is getting Hyde Park right.

'I really don't know what happens next, that's the only honest answer I can give. It's precarious though. If Hyde Park is s***, then that's definitely it.'

The rocker also admitted the decision to take to the stage again after Blur's relatively recent hiatus came about because they had new material they wanted to showcase to their fans.

'I think the fact that we've got a couple of new songs, and we were getting on great, it just felt, "What the hell, let's do another one",' Alex added.

The group - also featuring frontman Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree - kicked off their two-hour set with hit track Girls and Boys, before performing London Loves under a replica of the capital's Westway road.

Albarn told the crowd: 'And we love London!'

Also taking to the stage at the BT London Live Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert were Bombay Bicycle Club and New Order, who presented a hit-packed routine to a sea of red, white and blue.

The Specials then provided the perfect pre-Blur warm-up as the sun went down over Hyde Park.

Frontman Roddy Byers made sure to pay homage to Team GB with his choice of bright red socks and bright blue shoes.

The event was the culmination of two weeks of BT London Live events, which has seen the likes of McFly, Alexandra Burke and Rebecca Ferguson take to the stage in front of more than a million sport and music fans in total.
