Lisa Barlow of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City named in lawsuit with businesses over unpaid $410K loan

Lisa Barlow has been named in a lawsuit with a pair of businesses she's affiliated with, Vida Tequila and Luxe Marketing, over what a one-time friend says are a total of $410,842.36 in loans that were not paid back.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, 49, is being sued by Bart Carlson, who is described as a longtime friend of the reality TV personality by TMZ, which reviewed the docs in the case Wednesday.

Carlson said in legal docs that the New York-born reality star, who has lived in Utah for decades, asked him for funding multiple times between May 2010 and February 2018, amid critical financial issues her businesses were facing.

Carlson said that because of his long-running friendship with Barlow, the two did not set a timetable for when the funds would be repaid.

Carlson told the court that repeated attempts to collect on Barlow went for naught, as she would tell him she was unable to compensate him for the past loans personally or with funds from the businesses involved.

Barlow issued a statement to Dailymail.com in regards to the suit, confirming her one-time friendship with Carlson, and responding to his claims of a debt.

She said: 'Bart Carlson was once a business partner in a restaurant in Park City and, I thought, a friend. I am deeply saddened that he has decided nine years after our restaurant business ceased to claim that I owe him money.

'To be very clear, the claim that I owe Bart or his company money is untrue. I pay my bills and obligations and I always have. In addition, Bart has no interest in Luxe Marketing or Vida Tequila and did not invest in either business.'

Barlow wrapped up in saying, 'I look forward to the truth coming out and I intend to hold Bart fully accountable for any damage this personal attack may cause me or my businesses.'

According to a bio on Bravo, Barlow is described as a 'serial entrepreneur' who 'owns various businesses, including LUXE marketing, VIDA tequila and her latest venture with her sons, Fresh Wolf.'

The bio noted that Barlow's 'luxuries and expensive taste rub some of the women the wrong way' on the Bravo series, in which she has clashed with costar Monica Garcia.

In a bio on her personal website, Reallisabarlow.com, Barlow describes herself as 'the definition of a serial entrepreneur' who 'has owned everything from luxury restaurants to luxury liquor brands.'

She said that 'her marketing company, LUXE, is well known in the entertainment industry for making things happen: from finding the perfect deal for a celebrity to creating the perfect space and environment for launching a new movie or TV show.'

Barlow said that she's 'always loyal to her brand' Vida Tequila, hoping to 'better embody what Mexico is today': 'Mature, modern, and complex.'

Barlow opened up to Utah Business last August about developing her companies - and touted their financial successes.

'The first year I launched Luxe, profits were slim, but it was only for the first year,' Barlow said in a piece published by the outlet. 'I have an amazing Rolodex in entertainment from living and working in Los Angeles and New York, and I had our brand at A-list events.

'We create unique spaces. It’s experiential marketing - we created everything from big concerts to exclusive parties at mansions in Park City, New York and Los Angeles. By the next year, LUXE was a success in every capacity.'

In the piece, Barlow also stresses the importance of networking and maintaining business alliances.

'As an entrepreneur, I have learned that all good relationships are give-and-take,' Barlow said. 'You’re both giving, and you’re both taking, but it can’t be both taking. I have created and sold multiple brands, and I want to continue to do this.'
