Watch the moment US swimmer Lilly King gets engaged straight after winning her Olympic qualifier as boyfriend's proposal goes viral

Two-time gold medal swimmer Lilly King got engaged to her boyfriend James Wells after winning her Olympic-qualifying race on Thursday.

King, 27, won the 100-meter breaststroke at the US Olympic swimming trials in Indianapolis earlier this week to qualify for the games in Paris this summer.

On Thursday, she finished second behind Kate Douglas in the 200-meter breaststroke to secure a second race at the games.

However, that was not the only cause for celebration after the race.

Shortly after King exited the pool, Wells was caught on camera asking her the golden question.

Unsurprisingly, King answered yes before they hugged and kissed in front of the NBC cameras.

Wells, a former swimmer at the University of Indiana - where they both attended, delivered sweet statements to prequel the big question.

'Just to see you grow has been so awesome. And I don't regret for a minute dropping my job and moving halfway across the country for us to move in together,' Wells said.

'It has been awesome, and I am very excited to see where this is going, so, dear, I was wondering, Lillia Camille King, will you marry me?'

King's fellow swimmer Ryan Murphy missed the moment but called it 'unbelievable' after hearing the news.

'I didn't see it,' Murphy said. 'That's unbelievable. I'd love to hear her reaction to how it is to get proposed to completely out of breath and soaked. That's incredible. She must be riding an absolute high.'

King holds five medals in her Olympic career and can add more this summer-- on top of her new ring.
