Tom Mazzei, Atkins Kroll director of sales, talks about Guam's admiration for Toyota's Tacoma truck line during the unveiling of the 2024 models on April 9, 2024.

Guam has had a long-running love affair with the pick-up truck, and now there’s a new object to catch the local truck enthusiast’s eye.

Atkins Kroll Toyota unveiled the all new 2024 Toyota Tacoma truck Tuesday at its showroom in Tamuning.

Director of Sales Tom Mazzei said they’ve been waiting a while for the latest model “but with all the supply constraints, it took a little longer.”

“But now it’s here. It’s all new from the ground up. It has a new chassis, new engine, more horsepower, much greater torque, so it’s very responsive ... tons of features, so the whole interior has been redesigned,” Mazzei said.

Invited guests had an opportunity to kick the tires and look under the hood of the new vehicles, but Mazzei said the biggest treat could be found in the truck’s interior.

“It’s got a surround camera in it, it’s got an automatic tailgate release, it’s got a JBL stereo system with a removable speaker. It comes with USB ports in the bed of the truck, as well as an inverter so you can run a drill or a fan, so yeah they’re not the old trucks of yesterday,” Mazzei said. “There are much more improvements, much more feature-laden. They are definitely close to being what I call a luxury vehicle.”

Mazzei said the price range for the new Tacoma model has gone up as expected.

“But I think what you get for the value, number one, you get a whole lot more truck. You also get the dependability, the reliability and the quality of the Toyota brand so it’s well worth the money. Nowadays we can stretch out the payments quite a ways. And these trucks last forever,” he said. “What’s interesting is that it’s the number-one selling vehicle on Guam but you can almost never find ‘em in the used car lot because if you have one and you want to get rid of it, it’s the easiest vehicle to resell.”

AK billed the launching event as an opportunity to meet with its “Tacomasters” and “taco’bout” an upgrade to the all-new, redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
