Today in Please Let the Simulation End Already: Elon Musk and Grimes are dating. In case you hadn’t picked up on their subtle, flirty Twitter back-and-forths, someone's publicist helpfully dropped an item to Page Six shortly before their debut on the Met Gala red carpet.

Apparently, the two met online after they thought of the same joke concerning Roko’s Basilisk, the thought experiment dealing with a theoretical artificial intelligence uprising. Apprently they both, as separate entities, thought, Lol, what if it was Rococo Basilisk? Indeed! Not really a joke, more of a pun. Or maybe it’s just wordplay? Either way, Tesla- and news-maker Musk went to tweet this little bit of brilliance when he realized the musician had already incorporated the concept into a music video three years prior (all of this is described in excruciating detail in the Post report). An insider [publicist] added,“Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI.”

These two move fast. One day you’re poking fun at AI by reframing dystopian thought experiments with baroque 18th-century French references, and a month later, you’re designing a dress for your new girlfriend, who is Grimes, to wear on the Met Gala red carpet. Yes, you read that correctly! Elon Musk doesn’t just design Teslas, he designs Met Gala-worthy fashion.

Musk was relatively restrained in his own look, wearing a white jacket and an inverted notched priest collar. Grimes, meanwhile, rocked a Tesla logo collar—which, as one acute Twitter user pointed out, is a nice 2018 equivalent of Angelina Jolie wearing Billy Bob Thornton’s blood as a vial around her neck.

Musk’s designs for Grimes included a white marbled high-cut corset that fed into a short, feathered skirt, with a long overlaid black train. Grimes wore her now long, black hair loose, along with shirred sheer fingerless gloves and knee-high lace-up platform boots. Her lips were messily stained a deep berry, a style that will be familiar to anyone who has made out with someone after putting on long-lasting lipstick.

I’m 100% positive that since Musk and Grimes are the way that they are, there is some elaborate yet niche reference for this look that this analysis has overlooked. But I’m reassured in the knowledge that if no one picks up on it, I can probably look forward to reading about it in The New York Post. Maybe even tomorrow. Or yesterday, if that malevolent future AI has anything to say about it.
