Martin Lewis has spoken out over inheritance tax and probate - and discussed the five need-to-knows you need to be aware of. The BBC Sounds podcast host and ITV star spoke out on Twitter, now X, over inheritance tax (IHT) amid the current political climate.

Mr Lewis wrote: "NEW! The 'Not The Martin Lewis Podcast' on INHERITANCE TAX & PROBATE help inc 5 IHT need-knows. Whats ur main residence? How to pay IHT during probate. Gifting for IHT Trusts & Care home fees. Do listen."

In reply, a fan said: "Great podcasts. Learned about regular excess income as gifts. Neither you nor guests mentioned that Probate in N Ireland takes ~5 weeks if done in paper format. Much quicker online. In many cases probate is very straight forward and a "professional" may not need to be appointed."

"Thanks for this Martin. My MiL lost her husband in Feb (still in probate) and now her mum this weekend which has left her numb. She has started panicking about inheritance tax and the six month window. This pod has put her and all our minds at rest," a second said.

"Hi martin how did your meeting go Wednesday? RE- finance black horse. I only ask as I finally got a response saying to wait a further 28 days. Are they scared you’re on to them," another Twitter user wrote. And another wrote: "You know what I find really odd? You have 3.1M followers and only 67 likes....WTF!"

The episode synopsis explains: "The ‘Not The Martin Lewis’ Podcast: Where Martin asks specialists your questions." And another said: "Inheritance Tax & Probate: What you pay, what you needn’t pay, how to find the cash, trusts, probate, gifts & more."

Mr Lewis spoke out on social media ahead of the General Election on July 4.
