Monaghan booked their place in the Bank Of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup Semi-Finals with a three-point win over Fermanagh in Brewster Park.

The Erne side had the better of things for long periods of the first half but a late goal from Andrew Woods saw Vinny Corey’s side go in level at the break.

And Stephen O’Hanlon’s second half goal proved decisive for the Farneymen as they sealed the victory.

Fermanagh controlled the play over the opening quarter as points from Ultan Kelm, Conor Love, Brandon Horan and Tiarnan Bogue helped Kieran Donnelly’s side into a four point advantage.

It took Monaghan 15 minutes to register their opening score as Jason Irwin popped over and with Kevin Sheridan also among the points they made it 0-5 to 0-3 with 21 minutes played.

Scores from Garvan Jones and Kelm pushed Fermanagh four clear again but a Stephen Mooney point from a mark was followed by Woods’ goal, the forward palming home from a flowing move by the away side to leave it level at half time, 0-7 to 1-4.

The sides shared the opening six points of the second half but then came the key score of the second period. Fermanagh saw an attack break down with goalkeeper Ross Bogue pushed up the pitch. Monaghan broke forward with pace but there was fortune about the goal as O’Hanlon’s attempt at a point dropped into the net as Bogue tried to get back.

And the Farney were able to keep their noses in front through to the finish with Fermanagh finishing the game with 14 players after Tiarnan Bogue was black carded following a challenge on second half substitute Jack McCarron.
