The world's top-rated racehorse, Cirrus Des Aigles, has been ruled out of the Hong Kong Cup on Sunday.

He will miss the race at Sha Tin after sustaining a tendon injury during his preparations.

Cirrus Des Aigles, a six-year-old trained in France by Corine Barande-Barbe, is ranked number one after the retirement of Frankel.

"I think it is not too serious and you will see him again next year, I hope," she said.

Cirrus des Aigles, the winner of 16 races which have helped him earn more than £4m in career prize money, was second when Frankel ended his career with a 14th successive victory at Ascot's Champions Stakes in October.

The favourite's absence from the Hong Kong Cup will boost the chances of Carlton House, owned by the Queen.

Carlton House, who was third in the 2011 Epsom Derby, is having his final run for British trainer Sir Michael Stoute before he is transferred to Australian trainer Gai Waterhouse.
