Former Northern Ireland defender Luke McCullough has joined Carrick Rangers on a three-year contract following his release by Glentoran.

McCullough won six Northern Ireland caps between 2014 and 2018 and was part of his country's Euro 2016 squad.

"It is clear that the club is looking to kick on again [after finishing seventh in the Irish Premiership last season] so I am excited to come and be a part of it," said McCullough, 30.

Carrick manager Stuart King said McCullough's "leadership and technical ability will be a massive asset to us".

"I must give credit to my board for their help with this transfer and to Luke who chose Carrick despite strong offers from other clubs," added King.

McCullough was among eight players released by new Glentoran manager Declan Devine last month after his contract expired.

The defender captained Manchester United academy but didn't make a first-team appearance for the Old Trafford giants and after spells with Doncaster Rovers and Tranmere Rovers moved to Glentoran in 2020.
