This paper compares the use of language by both writers-Okoye and Armah to portray the social ills prevalent in their societies: Nigeria and Ghana. A comparative study of this kind is a useful dynamic and heuristic tool capable of throwing valuable light on the characteristic features of the two works compared (Firbas cited in Johansson (9), as paraphrased by us)). As a matter of fact, the researchers, through this paper, have brought to limelight the beauty of the two works in terms of the language use by the writers, and this has added more value to both works literarily and academically.
"This research examines the artistic use of language by Ifeoma Okoye in her novel: Men Without Ears. The author uses language to admonish the Nigerian citizenry in particular and mankind in general to beware of vainglory or pride, incontinency, corruption, professional misconduct as well as undue desire for amassment of material wealth. The writers of this paper painstakingly assess such use of language by the author, and by so doing, they have not only conspicuously inflamed the passion of the readership but also added aesthetic value to the novel Unubi, Sunday Abraham | Ikani, Eneojo Friday""An Assessment of the use of Language in Ifeoma Okoye's Men without Ears"" Published in International Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development (ijtsrd), ISSN: 2456-6470, Volume-1 | Issue-5 , August 2017, URL: http://www.ijtsrd.com/papers/ijtsrd2441.pdf Article URL: http://www.ijtsrd.com/other-scientific-research-area/other/2441/an-assessment-of-the-use-of-language-in-ifeoma-okoye's-men-without-ears/unubi-sunday-abraham"

Beauty and Education: Two Prerequisites for Africa's Rebirth in Ayi Kwei Armah's Major Fiction2017 •
This paper argues that in the seven novels of Ghanaian novelist Ayi Kwei Armah, beauty is approached as a trope, and that the absence of beauty denotes the postcolonial condition whose moral code translates horrid social relations, corrupt politics and massive failure. Thus, the beauty of the African locale should function as an incentive to alter the ugliness of the present, and advance the cultural renaissance that Armah envisages for Africa. As such beauty operates as an aesthetic incentive wherein inspiration from the natural locale is transmuted into university curricula, revamping authentic African values for the pressing need of development changes.
This research paper is a critical exploration of Ayi Kwei Armah's novel with a view to analysing the author's perception of, and responses to Africa's contemporary political history. Using The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born, and for in-depth study, the paper stresses the trajectory of Armah's philosophical reflections on 'the trouble with Africa' as it relates to governance and development. The study is premised on the use of scatology as a device in other to depict that every part of Ghana oozes out corruption of various forms and dimensions. Armah's method in the novel is that he uses these corrupt practices to portray his disgust and hatred of the state of affairs in Ghana at the time of the novel. The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born is deliberately crafted to sound very vulgar for a purpose. The coarse language is used as an electroconvulsive tool to deliberately alarm the reader to draw his attention to the decadence and corrupt behaviours Armah exposes and condemns in the novel. In other words, it is for a therapeutic purpose.

The Writer as a Dreamer: Utopia and the Ideals of Utopianism in Ngozi Chuma-Udeh’s The Presidential Handshake2015 •
Literature mirrors society and literary artists reflect the realities of lives in their various societies through their literary works. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh is one of the Nigerian writers who use their literary works to advance political goals all geared and targeted towards a more humane and prosperous society. Utopia as a concept is coined from the two Greek words: outopia which means ‘no place’ and eutopia which means ‘the good place’ and both words combined together to mean “the good place in no place”. This is the idea of a perfect world that obviously conflicts with our real world of reality. Utopian novels, therefore, are the type of novels where the writers create a perfect and beautiful world; a world where everything is good and ideal, a paradise where people and society thrive in harmony and human development and achievements flower at their peaks. This world is far from our world of reality, our world of flesh and blood but writers create them perhaps to show a picture of an...

Conceptualizing Speech Acts in African Literature: A Linguistic Study of Ayi Kwei Armah's The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born2022 •
This paper conceptualizes speech acts in African literature via a linguistic study of Ayi Kwei Armah"s [1] The beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born. Within the context of the paper, "conceptualization of speech acts" is essentially the functions of speech acts in extended body of discourse such as literary texts. The paper mainly hinges on Bach and Harnish"s [2] speech acts theory, although insights from different pragmatic theories give it direction. African literature deploys fascinating dimensions of speech acts in the communication of writers" thematic concerns, as evident in The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born. The paper concludes that a speech act approach to the study of African literature reveals the total meaning produced when speech acts are intentionally selected and deployed by the intra-text participants of discourse in varied situational contexts.
