Watch this visitor's video for a great view of the amazing Falkirk wheel - the only rotating boat lift anywhere in the world!

The Falkirk Wheel links the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal. Until 1936 the two canals were joined by 11 locks - but once these were dismantled, the link was broken.

The video shows the wheel in operation, lifting a boat from the lower level up to the canal at the top. Amazingly despite having 80,000 gallons of water in each side, the wheel uses very little power as they are kept in balance.

A remarkable and elegant feat of engineering - and well worth a visit next time you're in the Falkirk area.
