AKRON, Ohio – Cuyahoga County proposes to declare racism a public health crisis and join scores of governments across the country that have made such declarations, including Cleveland, Akron, Summit County and Franklin County.

But what happens after the speeches and the voting, and a city or county officially passes the declaration? According to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, municipalities are required to take action to eliminate disparities causing the public health issue.
