Hi- We are considering moving to Sinking Springs/Wyomissing PA area in a couple of months for work. My husband will be working in South Heidelberg. Would love some insight on the following.

1. We would love to live in an amazing neighborhood very family friendly we have three kids. Any neighborhood or areas we should look around?

2. Schools we think we have narrowed it down to Wilson school district. We’ll have an elementary and middle schooler next year. Any insight on the schools would be great.

3. Any other areas to consider? Stevens, Ephrata? Landcaster county?

4. Any other information would be wonderful. We don’t mind a little rural but I like to be conveniently close to shopping. Love small town feel with many community activities.

Wyomissing and Sinking Spring are the two best towns easily in that area. They are both lovely, esp Wyomissing. I believe property taxes are higher in Wyomissing, but its probably the best town in Berks county. Its near the malls, movie theater and Penn Ave is near Wyomissing (I think its technically West Reading) with lots of restaurants, cafes and shops.

I would choose one of those two towns to live in. You might have more flexibility with Sinking Spring as they have newer homes and cheaper property taxes compared to Wyomissing. Wilson is a good school dist. I wouldn't look anywhere else, like Lancaster (40% Hispanic and poor schools) but perhaps you can visit places like Lancaster or Hershey on the weekends. Eventhough Reading is dumpy and dangerous, they still have some good events with kids like the pro hockey team, minor league baseball and farmers markets and such.

My mom lives in Wernersville and my brother lives in Sinking Spring. I don't have detailed feedback on certain neighborhoods, but if I moved to that area, and if a person can financially swing Wyomissing, I would certainly live there over any other place in Berks County.

Best of luck!

Wyomissing is great! Stay there! West Reading is also lovely, which you will have close access to living in Wyomissing! I mean this is where Taylor Swift is from Also Lancaster County is great, including Ephrata but I would stick to Wyomissing 100%. And Lancaster city is VERY VERY NICE. It is much nicer than Reading in terms of downtown development/amenities. The nice think about Reading is that you are close to Lancaster and not too far from Philadelphia and places like King of Prussia.

Wyomissing is Wyomissing school district. Sinking Spring is Wilson school district. Both are great schools. Wyomissing is a much smaller district in both geography and population (500 vs 2000 students in the high school), if that makes any difference. Sinking Spring, Whitfield, West Lawn, Drexelwood, and Colony Park are all very family friendly neighborhoods in Wilson school district.

I drove through Wernersville and Robesonia on a visit to Murdaugh's Christmas Barn and I was impressed that they're still maintaining an old time Victorian atmosphere. Sinking Spring is mostly built up and has many mcmansions although the upscale suburbs are pretty nice I guess. Lots of shopping, places to eat, doctor's offices, certainly. If you worked there you wouldn't gain anything but a longer drive by living nearer Lancaster, but the whole southwestern Berks/ eastern Lebanon and Northeastern Lancaster counties all have the same pleasant vibe where they touch.
