I still think it's weird that you would put your kids in private and teach in public. (not that I don't think private schools aren't better, I do!) But if you don't believe in what is being taught in public schools then why you yourself not go get a position teaching at a private school?

When did I say that I don't believe in what is being taught in public school??? I just said that I wanted my kids to have a catholic education. My kids went to catholic school in Michigan also and we lived in Livingston county, which if you know your Michigan facts is one of the best school districts in Michigan. I taught in the public school there as well. Why??? No big mystery, the public school districts pay better and offer better retirement benefits as well as health insurance benefits. I plan to retire from CCSD then "double dip" by going to work in the catholic school. You say you are being brutally honest....but it is YOUR version of the "truth" that you are spouting...therefore saying that the truth hurts really has no relevance here....Summerlin is WAY over priced as is your precious Green Valley.....that is MY version of being brutally honest. NLV is NOT the ghetto....not even close.....you like to stir things up with your so called "honesty" and you dismiss anyone who doesn't agree with you as not being able to handle YOUR version of truth.

Wrong. I could care less what anyone else writes about Las Vegas and what their opinion is. It's the other way around, everyone tries to dismiss what I say. If you'll notice, in each thread I am merely replying to the question by the original poster. Then the usual couple of people spend the morning trying to find a way to refute what I say and if they can't find a decent way to do so they will just stomp their feet and keep saying things like "you're wrong, your bigoted, blah blah blah."

Talk about making assumptions. I subbed for practically 5 days a week for 2 years. Some schools I was at a day or two, some much longer. But I have a hunch that it doesn't matter how long I was in a school, you'd still say that my opinion should be dismissed. On the same note, I'll bet you've been a student at one high school there, maybe two at the most. IMO I would say that's not enough time to assess anything more than your one school.

Furthermore, I have on many occassions posted information/studies, etc. on where the Nevada schools stack up. Of course it doesn't matter where the info comes from I still get told I'm wrong. But just for the record, here some more info again... you'll see that my opinion of poor Las Vegas schools is not just based on my experiences as a substitute there.

I've been saying on these boards over and over that the schools, especially those in Las Vegas (Clark County) are not good. While some people like to repeatdly refute that (olcapt), the data supports shows this. Here's a link to a report in the education industry that shows what I've been saying all along. Nevada has a 55.9 percent graduation rate. In the state rankings for a chld's success rate (because of education) they come in 43 out of 50 states (50 being the worst).

You can see the full report here: link:http://www2.edweek.org/media/ew/qc/2...supptables.pdf (broken link)
(You have to register to see the report, but you can register for free)

This isn't the only report that shows how bad the schools are there, there others, all one needs to do is search. IMO when you do the research it's easy to see that the schools are not very good. If you do the research and come out saying that they are good then my guess is you didn't understand what you were looking at.

Since we've discussed crime a lot as well, here's something interesting:
Most Dangerous/Safest State Award 2007

Nevada was just ranked number one out of all the states for the most crime!

To me, it looks like there's more motivation to your post than an informative discussion. Here's a link to your other concurrent post on this subject: Other City Data Thread . In how many threads do you want to beat this horse?

I posted that there because the ranking is for the state of Nevada, while this area of the forum is for Las Vegas. Those living in or interested in other areas of Nevada probably wouldn't come to this thread to see that link to the rankings (they'd be going to the Las Vegas area and looking under a thread about someone buying a house...not likely to happen). It seems appropriate to put it in its own thread in the Nevada section. I would imagine you would agree.

ok ummm...not to sound self-absorbed but.....how did this conversation start from a genuine concern i have yet turn into an all out iWar??....

i dont want to have to sort through any more bickering, so please PM me with any advice any of you have concerning my original question.

and RWF, after talking to reps from KB and some others, i found that i am not within smelling distance from the farm. And no, our good deal had nothing to do with location, KB was nearing the end of thier fiscal year and basically gave away whatever remaining homes they had in thier inventory. that includes homes in areas other than NLV.

Good, I'm glad you are not by the pig farm. From looking at their map online I didn't think it was. Congratulations on the home and best of luck to you on your move.

How did it turn into a bickering session? There are a couple of people on here (some could actually be the same person with mulitple screen names from what I've gathered) that like to refute anything that I say. I come along and give my opinion/advice on a question and instead of them doing the same they try to pick apart every word of what I have said. They only want people to post things that they believe in.

DRHorton does that a lot at the end of their fiscal years, in fact, we looked at a neighborhood at Wigwam and Spencer that they went all the way down to 250,000 with stainless steel appliances, a year back because they wanted their numbers to do well on Wall Street...
