Exaclty HOW likely is it to get stopped for limo tint on front windows? (things to do, car)

Absolute waste of time pulling someone over for that, my best friend is a police officer, not a chance he would ever do that. He’d use it as an excuse if *something else is wrong* too, as others have said like if you’re driving in a moronic way lol. By itself, most any police officer has enough self respect not to pull someone over and waste their own time for such a pathetic ticket. Heck, my best friend gets so greedy he doesn’t bother with anyone not going 20 over, there are just too many people who are going that fast or faster that it makes more sense to wait for one of them and the nice juicy ticket that brings.

I was checking this lately because I’d like to up the tint on my 4Runner. From what I’ve read there’s no limit on your rear and side windows, dark as you want. Your front drivers side and passenger side windows must be 35% Light transmission with a 7% +/- variance. So technically you could go as high as 42% Legally.

The front window I didn’t quite understand so if you find anything while tinting yours please let us know.

I was pulled over in Utah with my Nevada plates. The officer had a handheld electronic meter he attached to my side windows and then wrote me a ticket -- not because my tint exceeded Utah's limit, but because my tint exceeded Nevada's limit according to his meter.

That's crazy! Was that at all recently? Would think that even in Utah they have better things to do!?

No tint allowed on front windshield except non reflective tint on the AS-1 band aka the 5” at top of windshield. That is the standard definition but the exact definition is
here NRS 484D.440 and it involves adjusting the drivers seat and headrest and then measuring on the windshield. I can’t see a cop wasting their time adjusting the seat and taking measurements with a tape measure. There also is a medical exemption for those so inclined.

So why do the Police care about dark tint? The answer is two fold. First Officers at night cannot see into a car if the occupants have weapons and might be pointing them at the officer. Second and I can personally attest to this you can’t see squat at night with limo tint while driving. That’s why I changed mine out to stuff you can see through at night but still reflects heat. Especially important if you are trying to change lanes on a busy freeway like I/15. I don’t want to be the guy you sideswipe coming into my lane because it’s dark or raining and you can’t see my vehicle because you put limo tint on your driver or passenger front side windows.

And last but not least limo tint doesn’t reflect heat any better (and sometimes worse) than clear products like Llumar Air Blue 80

His partner's personal car which was in a secured parking lot for their staff had black limo tint on all windows.

I got pulled over at 5:30 AM as I was driving in the right hand lane at 55 MPH when a CHP on a bike pulled me over. He put some type of LED meter to measure the darkness of my tint. Then he proceeded to the front of my car to check for a front license plate. After that he wrote me up.
