Sorry, I'm too broke to own a decent camera at the moment . My front lawn is about 350sqft of level ground and is now looking "neatly trimmed" with about 1/2-inch-tall weeds covering the entire surface area. Sidewalks have been swept. I just need to trim the tree.

Yes, that is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to give them a call and see what they say.

I got a simliar notice in November after being stationed overseas for a year and my wife for whatever reason not feeling like doing any yard work. I had just returned 2 days prior and got the notice which gave me 14 days to correct the violation. After jet lag and I had gotten settled in and bought some yard tools, started on the front yard first. Took me better part of a day to get that all finished and had to go to san diego for a few days for an MRI for a medical issue .

Unfortunately, by the time I returned and was about to start on the back yard my notice had expired and I discoverd a 'citation' taped to my front door (was posted around noon the day the notice expired.. they are prompt!). Citation listed a court date and fine amount ($1200!). After a bit of research I discovered that the fire dept runs the code violation and located the person I needed to speak with (their number is listed on the notice, but I figured a personal visit would be more appropriate). The citation had a hand-written note to 'remove ALL weeds from property"..ugh).

Went to the office to discuss my issue, and everyone I spoke with was nice about it given my circumstances, but explained that once the citation is written there is NOTHING they can do and I must attend my court date and the rest would be determined by the judge. Fortunately, the judge was sympathetic to my situation (plus the fire dept noted that I had corrected the back yard the day after the citation). Court was fairly amusing yet scary, as the judge threw 3 people before me in jail for contempt and fined pretty much everyone else (1/2 the cases were for weeds, rest for no business license and whatnot).

My advise.. CALL the code enforcement division BEFORE the notice expires. They can give you an extension if you need it and will work with you. If the violation is not corrected 'to their standards' after the notice expires, you WILL get a citation and court date. Trust me, they are coming by every day to see your 'progress', just call them and ask them if you are within code now and they will tell you what else you need to do (or at least say if you are/are not within code).

Go pull the weeds. No weeds no problem. And think about how it looks to the neighbors. If they are happy there will be no more letters.

The actual requirements are here...

Code Requirements

I would suggest that you keep the neighbors happy as well.
Good advice, and thanks for giving me the link to that website. Very helpful!!
