If you were to offer insights to someone thinking about the virtues of retiring in either Texas Hill Country or California's Sierra Nevada Foothills, considering the following factors, what would you tell them?:

1. Climate / weather.

2. Cost of living.

3. Scenic beauty.

4. Natural disaster risk (fire, hurricane, earthquake, tornado, flooding).

5. Ability to garden / grow things outdoors.

6. Wildlife / birdlife abundance and species diversity.

7. Crime/ drug problems.

8. Other.

9. Overall.

The Texas Hill country is in Central Texas. A large part of Austin is in the Texas Hill Country.

Don’t let people in the hill country hear you say that Austin is part of the hill country.

Well, I guess they are trying to distance themselves from Austin. LOL

This is an urbanized portion of the Texas Hill Country in Austin. A very beautiful section of Town.

Thanks for clarifying that. I drove from Fort Stockton to San Antonio and noticed some hilly terrain but it wasn’t too hilly to where I would say the topography is on par with the Sierra foothills. Most of my time spent in Texas is in the panhandle (a small town called Wellington about 30 miles north of Childress). It’s flat in that part of Texas. I love the serenity of the wide open spaces of Texas.
