Brothers Ethan (Wyatt Oleff) and Derek (Fin Argus) have gotten used to taking care of their mother Michelle (Chrissy Metz) and her prescription drug addiction. Whenever Ethan comes home, he walks through the door warily, knowing it’s entirely possible he’ll find his mother blacked out from her pills. Ethan and Derek have had to handle this situation so many times before, it’s become a tedious routine. The pair try to keep their mother awake by loudly singing songs and having her guess what movies they’re from as they drive to the hospital, where they’ll all stay until morning. When Michelle drives them to get breakfast the next morning, she doesn’t bother apologizing. She knows this probably won’t be the last time, and her sons certainly don’t want to hear false promises once more.

The delicate coming-of-age process is curbed by one family’s struggle with a so-called “crisis” in Stay Awake, writer-director Jamie Sisley’s feature debut. Of course, the crisis at hand is the opioid epidemic, and the afflicted party is a tight-knit family living in a small Virginia town. Michelle is a single mother who undeniably loves her two sons Ethan (Wyatt Oleff) and Derek (Fin Argus). But unfaltering devotion on its own cannot keep Michelle sober, particularly when her doctor keeps refilling her highly-addictive prescription. Most nights, the brothers find themselves desperately […]

“It’s important you keep your expectations in check:” In “Stay Awake,” the prescient debut of director Jamie Sisley, we meet two teenage brothers, Ethan (Wyatt Olef) and Derek (Fin Argus), who not only have to deal with the usual problems of adolescence, but also play the role of caretaker to a deeply depressive and self-destructive mother (Chrissy Metz) in the throes of addiction.

Writer-director Jamie Sisley’s Stay Awake, a feature-length expansion of the filmmaker’s short of the same name from 2015, looks at its serious subject matter through a maudlin lens. The film’s title refers explicitly to Michelle (Chrissy Metz), whose opioid addiction routinely finds her nodding off in the backseat of the family car on the way to the hospital, as teenage sons Ethan (Wyatt Oleff) and Derek (Fin Argus) sing notable songs to try and keep her conscious. Across repetitive, overwritten scenes that are intent on verbalizing the film’s themes and ideas, Sisley struggles to find a tonal range that might reflect a more complex set of emotions and as such elevated his film above a glorified Afterschool Special.
More metaphorically, the film’s title refers to teenage conscientiousness about extricating oneself from the minimal career expectations of small-town America. When Ethan gets into Brown University and Derek...

The trailer for the new film Ordinary Angels showcases Hilary Swank's latest drama. The film, which was directed by Jon Gunn, is based on the true story of a Kentucky hairdresser named Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank) who pulled the community together to help save the daughter of a neighbor (Alan Ritchson), who desperately needs a liver transplant. The cast also includes Skywalker Hughes, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Emily Mitchell, Drew Powell, and Angel's Amy Acker.
Today, Lionsgate premiered the official trailer for Ordinary Angels.
In addition to revealing the details of the movie's plot, the trailer showcases Swank's performance, which seems to draw on two Oscar-winning brassy female roles of the past, namely Julia Roberts' Erin Brockovich and Sandra Bullock's Leigh Anne Tuohy in 2009's The Blind Side. "She's not getting any better!" Fusion Ent. has debuted the main official trailer for Stay Awake, an indie addiction drama from filmmaker Jamie Sisley. The film recently premiered at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival a few months ago, and will be screening in limited US theaters this May. Confronting a serious and common problem of rural families across the country with human mix of humor and levity. The deeply personal film is a fictionalized account of the filmmaker’s coming of age, as he struggles to get out from under the yoke of a prescription-drug-addicted mother in small-town Virginia. Featuring three superb performances that find surprising humor and humanity amid the tragedy of parental addiction. The film stars Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Wyatt Oleff, and Fin Argus. This looks like many other addiction recovery films, thought with a more intimate story about these two kids in Virginia. Take a look.

After six moving and well-crafted seasons, This Is Us offered an ending that was as gripping as the rest of the series, and each main characters' arc is wrapped up in a meaningful way. The fact that the story of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) raising their three adopted children, Randall (Sterling K. Brown), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) is told in both the past and the present brings more weight and emotion to every episode.
It's clever that This Is Us shares that Jack has died early on in the series, which results in a compelling mystery of what happened to this character along with how it impacts everyone else. It was clear that the This Is Us series finale, which has many emotional quotes, would be a tearjerker, and the last episode is one of the show's best.

Not a single one of last year’s nominees in this category was eligible this time around. Only two nominees this year have been nominated before for these roles: Two-time winner Julia Garner, looking to make it three for three for the final season of Ozark, and Sarah Snook, back for the juggernaut nominations leader Succession. There’s plenty of new competition, though, that could make the outcome interesting.

The first teaser for NBC’s Password did this revival zero favors, edited as it was to make a game about the quiet, considered exchange of clues and guesses seem amped up, madcap and rife with Jimmy Fallon antics.
But having now screened multiple installments of the eight-episode summertime revival (which kicks off tonight at 10/9c, followed by a Wednesday-at-9 outing), I can report — with more than a bit of surprise, I admit — that the new Password is… not bad? And even a lot of fun at times.

Reportedly, Sebastian Stan clocks in at 6 feet tall, comparable with 6-foot-2 Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, whom the actor plays in Pam & Tommy. Co-star Lily James hits 5-foot-7 in flats, which corresponds with Pamela Anderson. “This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz is speaking out about the show being snubbed for its last eligible Emmys. The NBC drama — which concluded its sixth and final season in May — managed to only score an Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics nod.

This Is Us, NBC’s praised drama series, which previously had been Emmy-nominated four times for best drama series, received only one nomination Tuesday for its final season – for Original Music and Lyrics. Stars Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz shared their thoughts on social media following today’s Emmy nominations announcement. Moore was considered a strong contender in the drama series acting category for her praised performance, particularly for her work in the penultimate episode.
“Do I wish our show was recognized in what I think was it’s finest hour? Sure,” Moore wrote on her Instagram story. “And Dan Fogelman’s brilliant writing for 6 seasons (hello The Train)? Ken Olin’s impeccable direction? Our insanely, wildly talented cast and crew? Yah…. But nothing can take away what our show meant to So Many (us included). That’s an incredible legacy to be a part of. I will be grateful forever.

The show, one of the most-watched network dramas, received zero 2022 Emmy nominations in the actor and drama series categories, propelling swarms of fans online into a rage over the lack of recognition for what Moore describes as the show's "finest hour."
"Do I wish our show was recognized in what I think was its finest hour? Sure."
"Do I wish our show was recognized in what I think was its finest hour? Sure," the actor shared on her Instagram Stories on July 12. Moore also acknowledged Dan Fogelman's "brilliant writing," Ken Olin's "impeccable direction," and the show's "insanely, wildly talented" cast and crew. She added, "But nothing can take away what our show meant to So Many (us included). That's an incredible legacy to be a part of.

Mandy Moore let her disappointment known on social media about the shocking Emmy nominations snubs for the final season of her beloved NBC series, “This Is Us.” Moore earned some of the best reviews of her career for her performance in the final season, most notably in the series’ penultimate episode. Moore was viewed as a contender for actress in a drama series but didn’t make the cut.
I will be grateful forever.”

While this year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy Awards lineup could correspond to last year’s exactly, the drama one is guaranteed to be completely different. The 2021 winner Gillian Anderson and her “The Crown” costars Helena Bonham Carter and Emerald Fennell have all exited the series (which did not air new episodes during the current eligibility window). Aunjanue Ellis’s “Lovecraft Country” concluded in 2020, and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” for which Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski, and Samira Wiley were all nominated last year, also did not return in time to contend at this year’s Emmys. Scroll down to see our 2022 Emmy predictions for Supporting Actress (Drama Series).
