The teaser for Robert Eggers’ new film, ‘Nosferatu,’ dropped today, and the featured cast is stacked with an impressive list of talent. Eggers, who first hit the scene with the sinister 2015 film ‘The VVitch,’ has made a name for himself as a director who uses period-specific style to transport audiences to unfamiliar territories, from a desolate lighthouse in Nova Scotia to the brutal countryside of 10th century Iceland. But its the grounded performances from his talented casts that truly make Eggers’ films so memorable. If you’ve checked out the ‘Nosferatu’ teaser and the cast seemed familiar, IMDb is here to help you remember where you’ve seen these talented actors before.
Lily-Rose Depp
Lily-Rose Depp was most recently seen on Max’s short-lived drama series “The Idol,” where she played a pop star struggling back into the limelight with the help of a notorious nightclub owner. The actress stars in ‘Nosferatu’ as Ellen Hutter, the innocent object of the vampire’s desire.
Nicholas Hoult
‘Nosferatu’ isn’t the first time Nicholas Hoult has explored the realms of the undead. The talented British actor was the title role in the 2023 horror-comedy ‘Renfield,’ starred as a mute-but-caring zombie in ‘Warm Bodies,’ and played a key role as the half-life war boy Nux in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ Now, he’ll step into the role of Thomas Hutter, husband to the afflicted Ellen Hutter played by Lily-Rose Depp.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Friedrich Harding is a ship merchant, which is likely a reinvention of the character played by Georg H. Schnell in the 1922 silent film version of ‘Nosferatu.’ If the actor seems familiar, it may be from his performance as Brian Tyree Henry’s twin brother Tangerine in last year’s action flick ‘Bullet Train,’ his supporting role as Pietro Maximoff in multiple Marvel movies, or his recent turn as a self-absorbed film star in ‘The Fall Guy.’
Willem Dafoe
Willem Dafoe is no stranger to playing vampires. The Academy Award-nominated actor starred in 2000’s ‘Shadow of the Vampire’ where he portrayed Max Schreck, the actor who played Nosferatu in the original silent film. You probably recognize Dafoe from some of his most famous 100+ acting credits, including last year’s ‘Poor Things’ and his two previous collaborations with Robert Eggers, ‘The Lighthouse’ and ‘The Northman.’
Ralph Ineson
The unmistakable deep voice of Ralph Ineson can be heard warning us that “he is coming.” The BAFTA Award nominee starred as Anya Taylor-Joy’s father in Robert Eggers’ first film, ‘The VVitch’ and lent his talents to the title role in A24’s ‘The Green Knight.’ You may have seen him this year as a priest on a mission in ‘The First Omen.’ In ‘Nosferatu,’ the actor will play Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, a role we can only assume will have to deal with the aftermath of the vampire’s attacks.
Bill Skarsgård
Although he is only shown as a silhouette in the trailer, Bill Skarsgård is set to star as the vampire Count Orlok, whose hunger for Ellen Hutter drives the story. Skarsgård has a history with the horror genre, playing Pennywise the clown in the two-part remake of ‘It’ and delivering a memorably unsettling performance in the indie hit ‘Barbarian.’ The Swedish actor’s horror bona fides continue to expand this year, as he takes on the role of Eric Draven in the remake of ‘The Crow.’
Emma Corrin
Also starring in ‘Nosferatu’ is Emma Corrin, known for her roles in Netflix’s “The Crown” as Princess Diana, as Darby Hart in “A Murder at the End of the World,” and in just a few weeks she’ll hit the big screen alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In ‘Nosferatu,’ she’ll play Anna Harding, wife to Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Friedrich Harding and likely friend to Lily-Rose Depp’s Ellen Hutter.

Earlier this year, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: Andor” fans received some unfortunate news. Ben Mendelson said, or at least suggested, that he would not be returning as the Imperial Director Orson Krennic in Tony Gilroy’s “Andor,” the architect of the Death Star.
“As for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no, I have not been approached for something like this,” he said around the time “Andor” season two was already well into production, leading many to presume it wasn’t happening.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer has had his contract renewed and will continue to lead the organization behind the Oscars through July 2028, taking him through the Academy’s centennial. His contract was up for renewal in 2025, but the organization said it was approved one year early “due to [Kramer’s] exceptional leadership and significant contributions.”
“Bill is a dynamic and transformational leader, and the Board of Governors agrees he is the ideal person to continue to broaden the Academy’s reach and impact on our international film community and successfully guide the organization into our next 100 years,” said Academy President Janet Yang in a statement.

On Monday, June 24, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the CEO who came into office post-Slap and has gotten the Oscars back on track, with ratings up two years in a row (and without any major scandals!), will continue his role through at least July 2028.

As distributors develop a more robust production arm, it means taking “fewer chances” with acquisitions, says Jeff Deutchman, president of acquisitions and production at Neon.
Speaking at an industry panel on film circulation at the sophomore edition of the Mediterrane Film Festival, the American executive said, “Because Neon and some of our competitors are producing films, by the time we go to festivals like Sundance or Cannes, our slate is 60-70% formed. When we were purely an acquisitions company and relied entirely on festivals to populate our slates, we could take more chances.”
Deutchman added that making an event out of film releases is no longer a requirement only for big Hollywood productions, with independent films also demanding an event component to attract scarcer audiences to cinemas.
“Fewer films are working theatrically. Consumers are pickier and independent films have to be an event. I don’t have an actual checklist...

“100 Days,” a buzzy Brazilian project Variety first unveiled in 2021, will begin shooting next month, led by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Carlos Saldanha.
Up-and-comer Filipe Bragança will topline the film’s cast, joined by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who will also produce.
“100 Days” is billed as an adventure drama for family audiences. It will tell the extraordinary but true story of Brazilian Amyr Klink, who, in 1984, at the age of 29, became the first person to cross the South Atlantic in a rowing boat after many had died in the attempt.
Amyr Klink, Filipe Bragança,
Said Saldanha, “I’m so excited to be able to tell this incredible story about this Brazilian hero to the world. I’m so happy to have this amazing cast, both Brazilian and international. Filipe Bragança as Amyr and Philippine, as the mother of Amyr, will bring the perfect depth and heart to this incredible true story.”

Hungry fans, rejoice; “The Bear” Season 3 will premiere on June 26 at 9 p.m. Eastern, three hours before its scheduled midnight release. The news was announced at the show’s press conference on June 24, with the cast gathered in-person to answer questions about the Emmy-winning series.
The conference panel consisted of Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliot, Matty Matheson, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Ricky Staffieri. One of the first questions directed at White and Edebiri was if their characters’ relationship contains romantic undertones, to which they replied simply, and with no further comment: “No.”
The conversation ranged from inspirations the shows draws from Chicago to individual character arcs and the ongoing presence of grief in the series, which began just after Mikey’s death (Jon Bernthal). Let's be honest, there haven't been a lot of great or memorable moments to come from the "Jurassic World" franchise. If we're being brutally honest, the "Jurassic Park" franchise probably should have begun and ended with the first movie (even though there's yet another installment on the way). But at the very least, the first two acts of "The Lost World" are rather thrilling until a trip back to the mainland tailspins into something ridiculous, so the sequels aren't all complete misfires.
However, if there's one truly memorable moment from 2015's legacy-sequel "Jurassic World," which acts as a soft reboot of the dinosaur-fueled film series, it's a split second gag involving the late, legendary Jimmy Buffett.
When all hell breaks loose in the fully operational Jurassic World theme park, dinosaurs begin to wreak havoc on tourists, starting with a swarm of dimorphodons flying around the park. It's pure chaos as families run to take cover,...

Celine Dion has been out of the public eye, or at least off the grand public stage, since revealing her diagnosis of Stiff person syndrome in 2022, eyes welling with tears and regret for having to cancel a tour. While the iconic power ballad voice of her (or any) generation has largely kept the particulars of her rare neurological illness off screens, Irene Taylor’s vivid and unflinching documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” gives fans and audiences an at times unsettlingly candid and up-close-and-personal tour of Dion’s psychic free-fall in the aftermath of that diagnosis. Eschewing talking heads for a portrait in which Dion insisted she do all the talking herself, this is a rare nonfiction chronicle of an artist that also avoids hagiography — we see Dion at her lowest because that becomes the reminder of who she is at her very best.

We have some interesting exclusive context to this story, but let’s get on with the basics first. Way back when in 2019, it was reported that David Fincher and Oscar-winning “Chinatown” screenwriting legend Robert Towne were developing a “Chinatown” prequel series for Netflix, given the filmmaker’s exclusive deal there.
And there’s barely been a word about it since.

Without a buyer, Paramount is raising funds another way: a Paramount+ price hike.
The streamer’s top tier, Paramount+ with Showtime, is increasing its monthly rate by $1 to $12.99 per month. Its ad-supported tier, the Paramount+ Essential plan, will increase by $2 to $7.99/month for new subscribers only. (Existing ad-supported Paramount+ members will remain at their current $5.99/month price.) The streamer’s legacy “Limited Commercial Plan” will increase by $1 to $7.99 for current subscribers — it’s no longer available to new subs anyway.
The new pricing will take effect on August 20, 2024 for all new Paramount+ customers. Existing Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will see the increase on their next billing date on or after September 20.
The last Paramount+ price hike took effect on June 24, 2023. That was when Paramount+ merged with Showtime. Happy Anniversary, basically.
The Paramount+ library includes shows like “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” “Knuckles,” “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Tulsa King,...

The marketing campaign for Neon’s “Longlegs” is the most ambitious for a horror movie in recent times. There’s a zodiac killer-level secret code spread in The Seattle Times, a phone number you can dial in to hear star Nicolas Cage whisper threats in a creepy voice (and as advertised on a Los Angeles billboard), and the eerie and elusive trailers and teasers that have dropped so far, mostly leaving Cage’s satanic serial killer out of the bag.
The ’90s-set satanic serial killer horror in the vein of “Seven” and “The Silence of the Lambs” is directed by Osgood Perkins, the “Gretel & Hansel” filmmaker who is, yes, the son of “Psycho” screen scream icon Anthony Perkins. (He also goes by Oz colloquially.) “It Follows” and “Watcher” scream queen Maika Monroe stars as Lee Harker, an emotional shell of an FBI agent with a disturbingly personal connection to a murderer who,...

Dan Licata has come a long way since high school, where he shattered both of his legs by jumping off the roof of a Buffalo church. A ferociously funny comedian, he has written for Saturday Night Live and Joe Pera Talks with You and recently performed stand-up on Late Night with Seth Meyers. His chaotically brilliant new stand-up special For the Boys (available on YouTube) was shot at his high school alma mater in front of a crowd of 15-year-old boys, the perfect audience for his arrested pubescent persona—a blustery Jackass-fueled manchild who desperately wants to connect with the youth but […]

These days, asking anyone to give their opinion on their favorite installment of any given "Star Wars" movie or show can feel like a loaded question. Hyperbolic hot takes about the sequel trilogy have singlehandedly fueled the YouTuber Industrial Complex for nigh on a decade now, while even innocuous shows like the currently-airing "Acolyte" have stirred up a hornet's nest over, well, what can only be described as a complete nonissue for normal, well-adjusted people like (hopefully) you and me. But for my money, the high-water mark for the franchise in live-action is the first season of "Andor" and it likely won't be dethroned anytime soon ... unless creator/showrunner/writer Tony Gilroy has something even better in store for us in season 2.

It’s hard to believe that Ken Burns has had a rule for what subject matter he takes on, given that the diversity of his work ranges from “The Civil War” and “Vietnam” to “Baseball” and “Jazz.” But he is finally breaking through that limitation — sort of.
Burns’s latest two-part documentary on Leonard da Vinci, a collaboration with his daughter Sarah Burns and son-in-law David McMahon, is his first non-American subject and has to be by default; the United States wouldn’t be founded for more than 250 years after da Vinci’s death in 1519. But Burns is claiming the Italian polymath for America, anyway, or at least he did so with tongue in cheek at his talk, “In Their Shoes with Ken Burns,” given at the Nantucket Film Festival, which concludes June 24.

When discussing “House of the Dragon” Season 2 with IndieWire, there was one aspect showrunner Ryan Condal could freely share: his excitement for new cast members to shine who didn’t have as much to do in Season 1. At the forefront of that group are Tom Glynn-Carney and Phia Saban who play siblings and spouses (that’s Westeros for ya!) Aegon and Helaena Targaryen, whose inner turmoil and troubled relationship comes to the forefront in Season 2, Episode 2.
“They’re fantastic actors, and they’re very well realized characters that we spent a lot of time thinking about and crafting them in a way that would be interesting and unexpected,” Condal told IndieWire at the Season 2 press junket. “Both of them came back in with a lot of great ideas about how to embody those characters, and what their relationship was like, their marriage was like, and I think you see all that reflected on screen.

Jason Schwartzman has made a career for himself in both major films and indie darlings. Throughout his filmography, you can see how he goes back and forth, effortlessly, to star in massive films like “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and then in smaller, more intimate indie films like the forthcoming “Between the Temples.”
As seen in the trailer, “Between the Temples” tells the story of a cantor who is going through his own mental health struggles.

Hollywood just can’t stop thinking about the Roman Empire. Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2” is in the works, and Francis Ford Coppola’s Roman epic-inspired “Megalopolis” premieres in theaters in September. Now, the infamously iconic “Caligula” is landing a recut and 4K restoration.

There was a bit of a directorial hot potato on the latest film in the “Quiet Place” franchise universe before it landed in the hands of Michael Sarnoski. John Krasinski, who helmed the first two films, couldn’t take the spinoff “A Quiet Place: Day One” on due to scheduling conflicts; then, “The Bikeriders” director Jeff Nichols was set to write and direct the prequel. But Nichols had creative differences with studio Paramount Pictures, parting ways with the project in early 2022.
This musical chairs surrounding a bankable IP about bloodthirsty aliens among us with supersonic hearing finally brought Sarnoski into view. Krasinski (here on as a producer) had seen Sarnoski’s 2021 debut feature, the mystical revenge drama “Pig” starring Nicolas Cage as a truffle hunter with damage, and felt the young, Yale-trained filmmaker from Milwaukee was the man for the job.

A family of Puritans banished by their colony encounters a dark supernatural entity in the woods. A young Viking prince sets out on a quest for revenge after being ousted during a coup staged by his uncle. Two horny weirdos are stuck living as roommates while tending a remote lighthouse. Time and time again, the characters in Robert Eggers' horror films are manipulated by exterior forces, only to discover that they themselves ultimately hold the key to either their downfall or salvation. Those themes of control and agency look to rear their head once more in "Nosferatu," the writer/director's remake of F.W. Murnau's silent 1922 vampire horror classic "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror" (itself an unauthorized "Dracula" movie) and the second such retelling after Werner Herzog's 1979 "Nosferatu the Vampyre."

From Pennywise the clown to one of the most famous vampires of all time, Bill Skarsgård is transforming into Nosferatu in Robert Eggers’ upcoming reimagining of the iconic 1922 German Expressionist silent film. But horror fans will have to keep waiting to see Skarsgård’s full appearance as Count Orlok, as the movie first’s trailer from Focus Features continues to keep the vampire’s complete look a mystery. Skarsgård is barely seen in the clip outside of a few quick shots, but his character’s haunting presence looms large.

In the "Star Trek" episode "The Galileo Seven", Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Lieutenant Commander Scott (James Doohan), and three specialists are assigned to take Enterprise's shuttlecraft, the Galileo, on a special survey to map the Murasaki-312 quasar. The seven people on board the Galileo have to repair their ship and find a way to contact the Enterprise through the signal-scrambling mists of the quasar. Bill Skarsgård is bringing the undead blood-sucking lore back to life.
Skarsgård leads Robert Eggers’ highly-anticipated vampire horror film “Nosferatu,” with “The Crow” actor playing the sinister Count Orlok. Eggers writes and directs the reimagining of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 film, which was later remade by Werner Herzog in 1979.

For as popular as docuseries have become, it is hard to think of ones that have stuck with audiences this past TV season enough to easily warrant an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

The State of the Race
The Outstanding Talk Series category was initially projected to only have three nomination slots this year, which would have been a huge bummer, because the primary issue people have with it is that it’s just more of the same every year.

Ever feel like the stories you create with your tabletop group could make for a pretty good movie? Now's the time to put that theory to the test. For more than a decade, the team at Filmevent has used filmmaking as a way to help organizations develop more collaborative ways to work together. Now they are bringing that experience into your home with their Kickstarter for "Road To Hollywood," a filmmaking tabletop game designed to turn your friends and family members into the Hollywood headliners they were always meant to be.
Like many current generation tabletop titles, the Mafia Edition of "Road To Hollywood" — the first release by the publisher that puts players through the paces of shooting their own mafia movie — is an app-assisted game. Your group of 6-10 players divide up the responsibilities of making a movie between you and follow the creative briefs to shoot...

For fans of the 2014 sci-fi action film "Edge of Tomorrow," the wait for a sequel has been long and full of disappointment. For a while there in 2022 it seemed like Warner Bros. might make a TV show that would serve as a sequel/spinoff, but two years later there still haven't been any updates. And though there've been plenty of rumors of a sequel movie in development, we've still gone ten years now without any official announcement.
Admittedly, it makes sense that "Edge of Tomorrow" would take a while to get a sequel greenlit. It wasn't a huge hit when it first came out; thanks to its $175 million budget, its $370 million worldwide box office earnings were considered a disappointment. It also doesn't help that the two main leads, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, have been so busy over the past decade. Even if the studio knew exactly which direction they wanted to take the sequel,...
