The Regency era dominated TV screens during the week of May 17-23, as “Bridgerton” took not one, not two, but three top spots on Luminate’s weekly streaming ranking charts.
In its first full week of availability, Season 3 Part 1 of the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series hit 2.3 billion minutes watched, the No. 1 title by far. Season 1 took second place with 498.6 million minutes watched, followed by Season 2 with 434 million minutes watched. It’s clear that “Bridgerton” will continue to dominate streaming rankings for weeks to come, not only because of the show’s obvious popularity, but because Season 3 still has four...

A queen of daytime TV could have been the inaugural Golden Bachelorette. Susan Lucci, who spent four decades playing Erica Kane on the soap All My Children, says she was approached to star in The Golden Bachelorette’s first season. “I believe that they contacted my publicist,” Lucci told People. “I didn’t pursue [it] when they called my publicist to see if I would be interested. It wasn’t for me, but I do love watching. I’m a fan. I love watching.” Lucci explained that she started watching The Bachelor after her assistant said one night that she was going home to watch the ABC reality show. “The first time I watched it was that night a couple seasons ago,” Lucci said. “I was immediately engaged. I cared. I wanted to know more about these people.” The Daytime Emmy winner also tuned in to watch The Golden Bachelor as...

When the Emmy nominations are announced July 17, something will happen that hasn’t happened in 50 years: The nominees for best drama series will include only one previously nominated show, Netflix’s The Crown. I would love to be able to say that’s because there are so many great dramas out there and that TV Academy members are diligently watching them and championing different great ones this year. But the truth is, this field, historically among the strongest each season, now looks like a wasteland.
Such perennial nominees as HBO’s Succession and Westworld and AMC’s Better Call Saul have ended, along with second-tier contenders like Paramount+’s The Good Fight and Star Trek: Picard. Some ongoing, previously nominated shows were not back in time to be eligible, in some cases because of delays caused by the writers and actors strikes, including Netflix’s Stranger Things, Squid Game and Bodyguard; HBO/Max’s Euphoria,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Episode 3, “No Pain.”] No one can stop talking about the vampire Lestat. The portrayal of Sam Reid‘s French vampire has been entirely controlled by Louis’ (Jacob Anderson) answers in his interview with Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) and Claudia’s (Delainey Hayles) journals in Seasons 1 and 2. But a new narrator gives their take on him in Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Episode 3, “No Pain,” and Armand’s (Assad Zaman) memory of Lestat is notably different. “No Pain” is the brief first adaptation of Anne Rice‘s The Vampire Lestat, the sequel novel to 1976’s Interview With the Vampire that provides Lestat’s backstory and his version of the events of the first book. That origin story is told in short form in “No Pain,” but should the series be renewed for Season 3, showrunner Rolin Jones assures more of this story will be explored. Armand tells Daniel the story ...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Sympathizer finale.] The Sympathizer has been slyly teasing the identity of the Commissar since Episode 1, and the finale at last revealed who he is. It also revealed a surprise fifth Robert Downey Jr. character that makes the entire story come full-circle. For most of the season, viewers have been watching the Captain (Hoa Xuande) tell the story through stylistic flashbacks, using his love of American cinema and music to tell the story like a movie. There were occasional cuts to the present day where the Captain was imprisoned in a Vietnamese reeducation camp and being forced to make edit after edit to his confession “script” until the officers, and the unseen Commissar, were satisfied. If you didn’t figure out the Commissar’s identity through the clues peppered throughout earlier episodes, the finale makes it abundantly clear that the Captain has had a hunch about this person’s identity all season long...

Contradictions are often unsatisfying, but contradictions can also be the only way to reconcile hard truths. For instance, it’s not very satisfying to blame your team’s heartbreaking loss on the referees, but there’s honesty in accepting that, over the course of a game, 50 foul calls will inevitably aid one team more than another. In the end, you choose to honor the established rules or live in denial of the final box score; to accept the result or descend into madness; to go along or throw a fit. Neither choice is technically wrong, and thus both choices are technically right. It’s all a matter of perspective.

There’s a reason why Tom Selleck refers to the original Magnum, P.I. television series as just “Magnum” — and it has nothing to do with it being simple shorthand.
Selleck’s 352-page memoir, You Never Know, was released earlier this month (days after the 36th anniversary of Magnum, P.I.’s series finale), and when rummaging for something to read outdoors on a lazy Memorial Day Weekend afternoon, I remembered that I had been floated an advanced copy. Ari Katcher is a comedy writer. He’s an expert in story structure and instrumental in helping comedians like Ramy Youssef turn their autobiographical stand-up into a scripted series (“Ramy”). He did the same for his close friend and longtime collaborator Jerrod Carmichael as co-creator of the NBC sitcom “The Carmichael Show” and screenwriter of the comedian’s directorial debut “On the Count of Three.”
Katcher is also the co-creator and director of the unscripted “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” in which the standup turned the cameras on his personal life. The show is revelatory in its unbridled honesty that spares no one, least of all Carmichael himself. It also demanded that Katcher be both concerned friend and a goal-driven storyteller, often at the same time.

Richard M. Sherman, a nine-time Academy Award nominee and one of the songwriting brothers behind Disney movies like 1964’s Mary Poppins and 1967’s The Jungle Book, has died at 95. Sherman died of age-related illness at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills on Saturday, according to a Walt Disney Company announcement. Robert B. Richard and Robert wrote more than 200 songs for some 27 films and 24 television productions, Disney reports. No matter what anyone tells you, the first “Jurassic Park” is a horror movie. There are big monsters chasing and killing people, several terrifying set pieces, and plenty of maiming and killing: It is a horror movie, just one that the whole family can watch. After Steven Spielberg departed the director’s chair, however, the franchise slowly toned down the horror with each new entry, until now. Give it to an all-ages cartoon to bring the scares back to the franchise in “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory,” a Netflix animated series that finds kids on the run from a dark conspiracy, assassin raptors, and a dinosaur that killed one of them already.

Updated with statement from California Employment Development Department
The state of California has warned entertainment industry payroll providers and others that it is implementing policy changes that could have significant tax and retirement planning implications for those in Hollywood’s creative community who use loan out corporations to manage their business affairs.
The California Employment Development Department has alerted payroll service Cast & Crew, IATSE and others of the plan to tighten rules for the use of loan out corporations. Many creatives in the industry use such a business structure to manage different forms of payments that flow in from disparate employers throughout the year.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach may soon be a household name due to his standout supporting role as Richie Jerimovich on the hit FX (for Hulu) television series “The Bear.” And if that doesn’t do it, perhaps his recently announced casting as Ben Grimm aka The Thing in Marvel’s film version of “The Fantastic Four” will.
Of course, there are some who have been all-in on Moss-Bachrach since his performance as Desi on HBO’s “Girls.” Those playing catchup on his career should perhaps start with an even-earlier role that stands out for many now in retrospect — a brief appearance as Frederick the bellboy in Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums.” With a mop of floppy curls under a round hotel cap, Moss-Bachrach was only 23 at the time of filming, but held his own against scene partner and legendary screen actor Gene Hackman.
“He’s a pro,” said Moss-Bachrach of Hackman during a profile in GQ.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Hacks Season 3, Episode 6, “Par for the Course.”] Christopher McDonald may forever be remembered as Shooter McGavin, the pro-golfer nemesis to Adam Sandler‘s titular character Happy Gilmore from the 1996 comedy film, but he is also delivering laughs in the latest season of Max‘s acclaimed series Hacks. It just so happens that he’s channeling his Happy Gilmore character a bit for Season 3 as his character Marty hits the golf course alongside Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) for the American Television Affiliates Golf Tournament in Episode 6. Part of the show since Season 1, Marty owned the casino that kicked Deborah out for a new act, forcing her to reevaluate her career. The duo has always had a push-pull dynamic, and while Marty exhibited that he still has feelings for the comic in this installment, he was more annoyed by Deborah’s restrained golf game than her schmoozing of the executives. Below, McDonald opens up about ...

Tamar Braxton isn’t in a rush to pick up a peach for The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The singer and Braxton Family Values alum says she turned down the chance to become one of Bravo’s Rhoa housewives. “I’ve had conversations, but the truth is, like, [there’s] just no way I’m going to sit in makeup and get a wig put on and get my face beat to argue with a bunch of b*tches about nothing,” Braxton told Carlos King in a live episode of his Reality With the King podcast. “I can’t do it. What does that do for me in my life? Like, what’s the argument? I can’t.” For Braxton, positive representation is worth more than Real Housewives money. “Let me tell you something: All money ain’t good money,” she told the crowd at the podcast taping. “It’s just not.

Jeff Probst is calling an end to “one of the most unique eras in the history of Survivor.” No more Survivor players will win the so-called Sia Prize, the cash award the pop star has doled out to her favorite participants on the CBS reality show since 2016. “After eight years, 14 seasons, 19 players and over $1,000,000 awarded, Survivor is officially bringing the Sia Prize to a triumphant end!” Probst wrote on Friday, updating his Instagram Stories with a post that Sia later shared in her own Stories. Instagram The Survivor host said he “vividly remember[s]” when Sia crashed the stage during the live finale of Survivor: Kaôh Rōng — Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty in 2016 and rewarded contestant Tai Trang $50,000 of her own money for his compassion toward a chicken during the season. “Tai was shocked, the audience was shocked, I was shocked! Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) isn’t going anywhere! The first season of Elsbeth ended with Wagner (Wendell Pierce) not only wanting her to stay, but giving her a new office. And that came after the finale broke from its format in a couple areas, including Elsbeth’s hunches when it comes to solving crimes and not revealing who the murderer was from the jump. Below, Preston looks back on the first season, including the finale, and begins pondering what could be next. Elsbeth is staying and Wagner wants her to stay. What did you enjoy most about playing the different sides of their dynamic this season? It takes a few turns leading up to that sweet hug. Carrie Preston: Yes, it was really wonderful working with Wendell. He’s such an extraordinary actor and he brings such gravitas and grace and skill to his work. The alphabet hasn’t been the same since Vanna White started flipping letters to reveal puzzle answers on Wheel of Fortune in 1982. It’s made her an American icon. On the eve of taping the final show with retiring longtime host Pat Sajak, she shared memories and mused on what’s next. Do you remember your first day on Wheel? Vanna White: I remember being extremely nervous. It was hard for me to even talk. My mouth was just shaking out of nerves because it was, “I can’t believe this is happening. We’ve seen science do some pretty incredible things on South Park over the years, from engineering a talking towel to creating a monkey with four (no, five!) asses. But attempting to make Eric Cartman thin? Now Trey Parker and Matt Stone are just playing God.
Cartman’s morbid obesity feels deeply ingrained in who he is as a character, right alongside his unabashed racism and rampant antisemitism. But the show’s latest Paramount+ special, South Park: The End of Obesity, threatens to change everything by introducing Ozempic to the quiet, little mountain town.

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. Asked how he was faring, he quipped on speakerphone, “Oh, I’m good! I’m in the car, just driving at high speeds recklessly. Very, veeery recklessly.”
The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. A childhood spent in the American midwest helped him with the accent and demeanor needed for Deputy Witt Farr. The North Dakota highway patrolman has a surprise encounter in Episode 1 “The Tragedy of the Commons” with the scrappy Dot Lyon (Juno Temple) and menacing...

When Morgan Spurlock, who died May 23 from complications of cancer at age 53, first entered the documentary space in 2004 with “Super Size Me,” he managed to turn the film’s success into a career. A career that was not only prolific, but also lucrative — a rarity, to this day, in the field.
The secret to Spurlock’s success? He was not only a talented filmmaker, but also a brilliant businessman.
Just 11 months after the Sundance premiere of “Super Size Me,” Spurlock partnered with FX on the docuseries “30 Days,” which chronicled the journey of an individual situated in an environment antithetical to his background.

We’re going to need every minute of the next 13 weeks to prepare to say goodbye to Evil, the chilling psychological thriller that follows forensic psychologist Kristen (Katja Herbers), priest David (Mike Colter), and contractor/tech expert Ben (Aasif Mandvi) as they investigate unexplained cases for the Catholic church … and, this season, prepare for the birth of the antichrist. But sadly, it is the final season. The good news? They got four bonus episodes to wrap up the story, but how much will be resolved, and how much will be left open-ended? “Hopefully everything is going to be resolved, but sometimes resolution adds more questions,” co-creator Michelle King tells TV Insider. Adds co-creator Robert King, “The resolution can point forward. I don’t think anything will be tied up in the most perfect bow, but there will be a bow. It just might have a little bit of leaving something open to the audience imagination.

To paraphrase the recent viral Faye Dunaway commercial blooper: “Live TV… there’s nothing like it.” Particularly on “The Voice.”
The 25th season — yes, really — of NBC’s “The Voice” came to a conclusion with the May 21 live show and the crowning of Asher HaVon as the winner. But don’t expect the team that brings the competition to life every week to stop working.
“We’re about to do blind auditions for the new season,” “The Voice” director and executive producer Audrey Morrissey told IndieWire during a recent visit to the penultimate episode’s dress rehearsal. “The casting is done, the background checks are in, that’s all happening concurrent to [finishing Season 25]. We already have a team doing pre-interviews.”
A competition series doesn’t remain a powerhouse in its 25th season without a well-oiled machine behind it. What’s particularly striking about “The Voice” is just how well-oiled it is.
