Max has opted not to proceed with a second season of drama The Girls On The Bus. The decision comes two weeks after the Season 1 finale of the series, starring and produced by Melissa Benoist, was released.
“While Max will not be moving forward with a second season of The Girls on the Bus, we are grateful to have partnered with immensely talented Amy Chozick, Julie Plec, Rina Mimoun, as well as the teams at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television,” the streamer said in a statement. “We are so proud of this powerful story of found family and the celebration of journalism, in all its forms. We thank them and our unrivaled cast for all their incredible work and collaboration.”
The cancellation news is not entirely surprising. The adaptation of Chozick’s best-selling book Chasing Hillary had a relatively quiet run and didn’t break into Nielsen’s Top...

Fresh off his Academy Award nomination, Jeffrey Wright is returning to HBO for the highly-anticipated Season 2 of “The Last of Us.”
The Oscar-nominated “American Fiction” actor, who previously won an Emmy for “Westworld,” is set to play Isaac in the video game adaptation series. Isaac is billed as a “quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.”
Wright also voiced Isaac in “The Last of Us Part II” video game, making his casting a full circle choice for the Emmy-winning series adaptation.
Wright formerly starred in fellow HBO series “Westworld.” Wright was further rumored to have a spinoff series of “The Batman” at Max; the project has since been stalled as “The Penguin” series and “The Batman: Part II” film both move forward.

Back in March, we got the tragic news that 27-year-old Gen V actor Chance Perdomo has passed away after a motorcycle accident.
Perdomo had been a major part of The Boys spin-off series, and his character, Andre Anderson, was going to feature heavily in the planned second season.
Showrunner Eric Kripke and the show's producers recently put out a joint statement confirming that another actor would not be brought in to play Andre, and the season would instead be "re-crafted" to pay tribute to Perdomo.
"As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory. We won't be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to re-craft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.

We’ve seen science do some pretty incredible things on South Park over the years, from engineering a talking towel to creating a monkey with four (no, five!) asses. But attempting to make Eric Cartman thin? Now Trey Parker and Matt Stone are just playing God.
Cartman’s morbid obesity feels deeply ingrained in who he is as a character, right alongside his unabashed racism and rampant antisemitism. But the show’s latest Paramount+ special, South Park: The End of Obesity, threatens to change everything by introducing Ozempic to the quiet, little mountain town.

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. Asked how he was faring, he quipped on speakerphone, “Oh, I’m good! I’m in the car, just driving at high speeds recklessly. Very, veeery recklessly.”
The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. A childhood spent in the American midwest helped him with the accent and demeanor needed for Deputy Witt Farr. When Morgan Spurlock, who died May 23 from complications of cancer at age 53, first entered the documentary space in 2004 with “Super Size Me,” he managed to turn the film’s success into a career. A career that was not only prolific, but also lucrative — a rarity, to this day, in the field.
The secret to Spurlock’s success? He was not only a talented filmmaker, but also a brilliant businessman.
Just 11 months after the Sundance premiere of “Super Size Me,” Spurlock partnered with FX on the docuseries “30 Days,” which chronicled the journey of an individual situated in an environment antithetical to his background.

We’re going to need every minute of the next 13 weeks to prepare to say goodbye to Evil, the chilling psychological thriller that follows forensic psychologist Kristen (Katja Herbers), priest David (Mike Colter), and contractor/tech expert Ben (Aasif Mandvi) as they investigate unexplained cases for the Catholic church … and, this season, prepare for the birth of the antichrist. But sadly, it is the final season. The good news? Adds co-creator Robert King, “The resolution can point forward. I don’t think anything will be tied up in the most perfect bow, but there will be a bow. To paraphrase the recent viral Faye Dunaway commercial blooper: “Live TV… there’s nothing like it.” Particularly on “The Voice.”
The 25th season — yes, really — of NBC’s “The Voice” came to a conclusion with the May 21 live show and the crowning of Asher HaVon as the winner. But don’t expect the team that brings the competition to life every week to stop working.
“We’re about to do blind auditions for the new season,” “The Voice” director and executive producer Audrey Morrissey told IndieWire during a recent visit to the penultimate episode’s dress rehearsal. “The casting is done, the background checks are in, that’s all happening concurrent to [finishing Season 25]. We already have a team doing pre-interviews.”
A competition series doesn’t remain a powerhouse in its 25th season without a well-oiled machine behind it. What’s particularly striking about “The Voice” is just how well-oiled it is.

Nearly all of the late-night hosts are turning Memorial Day Weekend into an extended break, with all but one show off the entirety of next week.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Seth Meyers, After Midnight, The Daily Show, and Watch What Happens Live are all dark next week. In Meyers’ case, it’ll be the second week of a two-week hiatus.
The only late-night show airing new episodes next week will be Jimmy Kimmel Live!—and even that will be an abbreviated run. Kimmel will only air new shows on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
While Kimmel was new Monday through Wednesday this week, he got an early start to the long weekend, taking off on Thursday this week.

The show of summer 2024 — for some, of the whole year — is almost back. FX’s The Bear returns June 27 with more tense kitchen drama, classic rock, and superb performances, including from Jeremy Allen White, who looks predictably stressed in this first trailer.
Pretty much the whole gang’s featured in this 30-second preview: Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Marcus (Lionel Boyce), Tina (Liza Colón-Zayas), Sugar (Abby Elliott), and Fak (Matty Matheson).. And they all look like they’re feeling the pressure following the soft opening of The Bear (the restaurant), with Sugar and Richie trying to mollify customers while Sydney expedites and Marcus tries to keep the peace between Carmy and Cousin. When Sydney sighs about their "dysfunctional kitchen," both Richie and Carmy exclaim "Show me a functional one!"...

IATSE has scheduled an additional three days of bargaining in June in which it hopes to wrap up a tentative agreement with the studios.
The union told members Friday that it has reached “consensus” with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on some issues. But there is still work to do on artificial intelligence, and how best to protect workers whose jobs are displaced by AI.
Under existing agreements, IATSE workers who lose their jobs permanently due to “technological change” are entitled to retraining and severance pay. The new contract is expected to address how that would apply in the case of AI.

When Criminal Minds continued with Evolution two years after the original run ended after 15 seasons, it did so with nearly every actor from the series finale: Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), A.J. Cook (Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), and Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss). Scheduling didn’t work for Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney to reprise their roles as Dr. Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons. But will that change in Season 17? There has been at least one sign pointing to a possible return from Gubler: a photo of Spencer Reid’s nameplate on a desk in a photo shared on Mantegna’s Instagram story (see below). So TV Insider turned to showrunner Erica Messer for answers. As it turns out, unfortunately, we will not be seeing Gubler this season. Joe Mantegna/Instagram “It never worked out for Season 16 and...

FX‘s The Bear is keeping the kitchen chaos cooking in the latest Season 3 teaser trailer released by the network. The 40-second preview hints at more tension between “cousins” Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as the popularity of the titular restaurant rises. “Feel good?” Carmy asks fellow chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) in the opening seconds, and she echoes back, “You feel good?” As Carmy puts it, we’re “going to see.” It’s Richie who steps into the kitchen to announce, “We’re open.” And what ensues is pure calamity, but what else should fans expect from this ragtag team of Chicago-based culinary experts? FX As previously announced, Season 3 of FX’s The Bear will premiere Thursday, June 27 on Hulu with all 10 episodes streaming the same day. Season 3 continues the story of Carmy, Sydney, and Richie as they elevate the restaurant to the highest level, while also...

Think about how competitive the Emmy race is: There are so many excellent shows that deserve attention yet fail to make the nomination cut because they’re either not considered one of the frontrunners or they air on a broadcast network. That’s rough.
Now, imagine being a critically acclaimed drama on a premium network/streaming hybrid in a season where the drama race is pretty wide open. You’ve got big stars, high production values and well-known source material. Shoo-in, right?
Not if you’ve been canceled. (Cue sad trombone sound effect.) That’s the unfortunate fate of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty...

Gary Oldman is having the time of his life with Jackson Lamb.
The third season of AppleTV+’s “Slow Horses” welcomes back Jackson (Oldman) fast asleep on a couch in the waiting room of a doctor’s office. One goes up to the receptionist and complains about him. Poking his head up, Jackson says in a wry manner, “It’s my colon, terminal.”

It makes sense for Disney+ to debut a new feature-length documentary about the Beach Boys — titled The Beach Boys — on Memorial Day weekend. For most of the band’s career, they’ve been associated with the summer. Their first hits, in the early 1960s, were all about sand, surfing, and California car culture. Their 1974 greatest hits collection Endless Summer became a huge success for the Beach Boys at a time when their more experimental albums weren’t selling. In the decades that followed, they leaned into giving casual fans what they wanted, performing their simplest, catchiest, and most sun-splashed songs at big outdoor shows.

Jason Sarlanis knows that for some people, the Investigation Discovery network has stood for one thing: murder mysteries, frequently gruesome in nature and usually told in self-contained hourlong episodes.
