“Shōgun” might be creating some drama at the Emmys.
Multiple industry insiders tell Variety that FX, the heavyweight contender in the Primetime Emmy race for outstanding limited or anthology series, is considering a bold move: shifting its submission for “Shōgun” to the drama series categories this year.

It’s official: There will no longer be an all Law & Order Thursday night on NBC. For its fifth season, Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving to the streaming service, Peacock. That breaks it up from airing Thursday nights after Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU, which also means that chances are there won’t be many (if any) crossovers. And of course, that leads to the inevitable question of what that means for the will they/won’t they slow burn of Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Svu‘s Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Organized Crime was created by Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, and Ilene Chaiken. It follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they take on New York City’s most vicious and violent criminal syndicates. It brought Meloni back to the world of Law & Order in 2021, via a two-part crossover with...

Kristen Johnston will star alongside Leanne Morgan in the latter’s upcoming Netflix comedy series, Variety has learned.
The untitled multi-cam comedy was picked up at Netflix in April with a 16-episode order. Morgan co-created the series with Susan McMartin and Chuck Lorre. The role marks a reunion for Lorre and Johnston, as Johnston previously appeared in the CBS multi-cam “Mom,” which Lorre also co-created.
The official description for Morgan’s series states: “Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”
Johnston will star in the series regular role of Carol, Leanne’s sister. The character is said to be Leanne’s complete opposite.

While she’s still got a ways to go before she earns a Five-Timers Club jacket, the Loot star is already part of another SNL fraternity: former cast members who have returned as hosts.
Given that the current season of the sketch comedy series kicked off with Pete Davidson at the helm and has since seen Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and now Rudolph return to their old stomping grounds, it would seem like a relatively common occurrence. Letterman’s official YouTube channel has just resurfaced highlights from an entire episode the original Late Show host did under a different name. Presciently, he chose “Jimmy.”
“For a long time, Paul and myself and the production staff have wondered, ‘How would this show be different if instead of my name being Dave Letterman, my name was Jimmy Letterman?’” Letterman explained to viewers in a cold open for the episode. “So that’s what we’re going to do tonight.”
With that, the show launched into an altered “Late Show with Jimmy Letterman” title sequence, complete with a Jimmified version of Letterman’s famous marquee.
Everyone in the episode played along with the name change, from announcer Alan Kalter to Paul Shaffer to guest Mia Farrow (who gifted him a...

It's been more than a year since HBO's House of the Dragon concluded its first season, which more or less lived up to the high bar set for it by Game of Thrones. Though not quite as expansive as its predecessor, House of the Dragon still offered plenty of intrigue in setting up what will be known as the Dance of the Dragons: the great civil war between Targaryen heirs Rhaenyra and her half-brother Aegon II.
Now that all the pieces are in place — and indeed the first casualties of the war were felt in the Season 1 finale — all hell is poised to break loose in Season 2. The question is, when will those episodes make it to HBO? Here's what we currently know about the second season, which is poised to begin production soon.
Get ready for a summer of dragons — Season 2 premieres June 16 on HBO.

In 2018, a study from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany reported that two-thirds of millennials don’t know what Auschwitz is. For filmmaker Joe Berlinger, this finding sparked a question: Are the atrocities committed during World War II by Hitler and the Third Reich being lost to modern memory?
“It shocks me the degree to which people are unaware of or have forgotten this history,” Berlinger told Netflix. “This is the right time to retell this story for a younger generation as a cautionary tale — and on a global scale.”
This is not the first time commentators have warned against the danger of forgetting the lessons of the Holocaust. A similar “wave of amnesia” had been noted in America leading up to the 1960 publication of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, journalist William...

“There’s one important thing to know about ‘Smiling Friends,’” the show’s co-creator Zach Hadel said during a recent Zoom interview with IndieWire. “It’s not smart.”
It was a reoccurring sentiment. Over the course of our conversation, Hadel and co-creator Michael Cusack repeatedly called their show “dumb,” “stupid,” “not smart,” and, in one colorful tangent, suggested that society would be better off if they were barred from producing television and sent to work in underground mines. But their humility masks a deep commitment to silliness that might be the secret to making “Smiling Friends” feel so damn refreshing.
The animated series, which follows an eclectic group of nonprofit employees who are tasked with making sad people smile (and are legally obligated to do anything a sad customer asks until they smile), was a massive hit in alternative comedy circles when it premiered on Adult Swim in 2022. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Shōgun Season 1.] Everyone who watched FX‘s fantastic Shōgun agrees: we’re sad to see this show go. The limited series debuted its Episode 10 finale on Tuesday, April 23 on FX and Hulu, revealing what Lord Yoshii Toranaga planned all along. Every death, every sacrifice was worth it, as it ushered in a new era of peace in Japan. Will we ever see a second season depicting that peaceful period? In a shocking — and exciting! — development, Shōgun Season 2 is reportedly in the works. Hiroyuki Sanada told TV Insider after the Shōgun finale that he didn’t know if a second season was possible. “I have no idea,” he said with a laugh (he was undoubtedly getting asked this question a lot). “But the novel is done.” Indeed, the FX limited (or not-so-limited…) series covered the entire plot of the James Clavell’s novel on which it’s based. But according ...

Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan premiered 20 years ago on National Geographic, and pet ownership has never been the same. Setting an example for your dog with “calm, assertive energy” is paramount in Millan’s philosophy, and, as he detailed in his 2007 book Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog… and Your Life, “Discipline isn't about showing a dog who's boss; it's about taking responsibility for a living creature you have brought into your world.”
Millan has long preached the belief that a dog’s behavior is the result of its human’s behavior, which, sure, can sound daunting, but it also means that, with some research and training of their own, humans can instill good behaviors and curtail bad ones in their pets. That’s the thinking behind Millan’s Dog Whisperer follow-up, Better Human, Better Dog, now in its fourth season on Nat Geo.
