2022 Tournament of Champions winner Amy Schneider is the sixth and final member of the Jeopardy! Masters line-up after landing the coveted Producers’ Pick spot. However, some fans are not happy about it. The announcement was made on Friday, April 12, at the Inside Jeopardy Live! Event at Hudson Yards in New York City. Schneider, who competed in last year’s Masters, will join returning champ James Holzhauer, Season 1 finalists Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, 2024 Toc winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce. The tournament will be prime-time on ABC, starting May 1. Schneider’s inclusion has been met with backlash. While the 40-game winner is a fan favorite, she had just competed in the Jit!, where she finished as runner-up. Many fans felt this should have disqualified her from Masters. “Honestly not a fan of this decision,” wrote one fan on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. “We just saw her in Jit,...

“Gray, it’s been a long time.” That casual greeting – delivered with a menacing edge by Bradley Whitford in his first appearance as a new character, Anton, a powerful Louisiana businessman with strong criminal ties – gave us chills when it capped off the taut third episode of AMC’s six-part crime-thriller Parish. “Anton is probably the most dangerous of all the characters because he knows Gray [Giancarlo Esposito] better than anybody. Ask yourself, who are the people that can get under your skin the most? It’s the people who know you the best,” says Eduardo Javier Canto who executive produces and writes the series with Ryan Maldonado. TV Insider checked in with the duo to see how the charming and wily Anton will add to stoic Gray’s pile-up of miseries. The family man is grieving his son’s death and fighting the failure of his luxury car service business.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Sympathizer Season 1 Episode 1, “Death Wish.”] South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and Don McKellar took on the task of adapting The Sympathizer book to the small screen. The limited series premiered on Sunday, April 14 on HBO, revealing its interpretation of the source material that’s highly praised for its unique style. The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren’t over. Those who have read Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel know the book is narrated by the unnamed main character. The Sympathizer series named its leading man the Captain (played by Hoa Xuande), and they took a creative liberty in regards to the context of his narration. In the series premiere,...

With the 2024 Oscars and the 2023 Emmys firmly in the rearview mirror, the film and TV awards calendar is all but ready to return to normalcy after last years Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupted the first half of award season. The last major event to be impacted by the altered schedule is today’s WGA Awards, which took place in an unusual post-Oscars slot after the strikes forced the guild to delay its voting process. As most of Hollywood looks ahead to the 2024 film and TV slate, today’s concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium and New York City’s Edison Ballroom gave award watchers one last chance to celebrate the best screenwriting of 2023.

After making a 36-second cameo appearance on last week’s Saturday Night Live, Ryan Gosling returned to host the show for the third time in his career. The Fall Guy star’s screen time of just over 26 minutes is the fifth highest for a Season 49 host, behind those of Bad Bunny, Shane Gillis, Pete Davidson and Ramy Youssef.
Scroll down to see how Gosling stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including musical guest Chris Stapleton and former cast member Kate McKinnon. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. ‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.

So begins Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Sympathizer,” which, when released in 2015, was hailed for its humorous, biting interrogation of American perspectives on the Vietnam War.
Integrating elements of the espionage thriller à lá John le Carré with a heavy sense of irony reminiscent of Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man,” “The Sympathizer” is told from the viewpoint of an officer in the U.S.-supported South Vietnam army who secretly reports back to communists in North Vietnam. Live TV, folks. Athough it wasn’t among SNL’s most historically egregious examples of the F-word going out live on the air, its apparent source would seem to be a first.
As one eagle-eyed (eagle-eared?) viewer tipped us off this afternoon, someone can be heard saying “what the f*ck” in the middle of last night’s post-monologue sketch “The Engagement.”
The moment comes right after Andrew Dismukes’ character in the sketch reveals that Gosling’s character wants out of his engagement. Host Ryan Gosling, feigning surprise, throws his glass of champagne against the wall to which someone off camera—presumably an audience member—exclaims “what the f*ck?”
Gosling briefly breaks character (no strange occurance last night) as he lets out out a snort that, in retrospect, would appear to be a direct response to the off-camera profanity.
A new F-bomb for the #SNL history...

Oh, the irony: In its seventh season, Station 19 is, as the kids would say, fire. New showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have done a superlative job of turning up the heat on the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. One of the many joys in watching Law & Order: Svu is trying to spot hometown New York City locations seen in the long-running series. Stars have played countless scenes throughout NYC, from Olivia Benson’s home borough of Manhattan to Elliot Stabler’s turf in Queens, where his family once lived. Ada Sonny Carisi is from Staten Island, and new team member Terry Bruno came from the Bronx Svu. Many cases have also involved places in Brooklyn. Residents and visitors to New York frequently stumble upon the cast and crew filming on the city’s mean streets, and there’s always a chance of glimpsing Captain Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her crew doing what they do best: solving crimes and protecting victims. This week’s Saturday Night Live made several strong impressions:
Ryan Gosling is a natural as host. Ryan Gosling breaks a lot in sketches. Ryan Gosling makes other cast members break a lot.
Also: Beavis and Butthead can’t miss.
All that and a cameo from Caitlin Clark.
This was a funny show. It was a silly, slapsticky, sight-gaggy, bawdy, big-laugh show, and Gosling was in the middle of most of it.
He arrived with expectations, of course. His “Ken” lifted his movie career to an impressive new level, because of his willingness to embrace and embody the iconic vapid essence of that character—er, doll. That had to be addressed last night of course, and was, in one of the more elaborate, prop and costume-heavy monologue segments of recent vintage.
But Gosling also resurrected his “Todd” character in a callback to one of the more consistently funny recurring sketches...

The Australian ‘toon has always been more substantive than many of its contemporaries (we’re looking at you, Peppa Pig!), but this latest special is on another level. It’s a thrilling half hour of television — a fast-paced, sharply-written, deeply thoughtful examination of the human spirit. Also, two dogs get married!

Ryan Gosling returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend and revived the hilarious “Close Encounter” sketch during the episode’s cold open alongside his former Barbie co-star, Kate McKinnon. First introduced on SNL back in 2015, the sketch revolves around three friends who were all abducted by aliens but had vastly different experiences once they were on the spaceship. In the newest sketch, Gosling found himself in the same predicament as when the original one aired, being unable to hold back his laughter at the crazy things McKinnon was saying and doing. Bowen Yang and Mikey Day, who are playing Nsa investigators, begin the cold open by saying to Gosling, McKinnon, and Sarah Sherman, “Now you’re all here because you’ve experienced a verified alien abduction.” Sherman replies, “It was wild. One second, we’re three friends on a camping trip, and the next, we’re citizens of the stars.

Caitlin Clark made an appearance on Weekend Update during this week’s Saturday Night Live — and it was a slam dunk.
The Iowa basketball star, who set an NCAA scoring record this year and is projected to be the No. 1 WNBA draft pick on Monday, joined Michael Che and Colin Jost to discuss sports and the upcoming draft. Che, however, had to answer for his history of lame jokes about women’s athletics.

Tyler, the Creator is no doubt one of the greatest showmen working today in hip-hop. During his headlining set on Saturday night (April 13) at Coachella, the rapper once again proved just that, transforming the main stage into a desert canyon and using lighting and projections to create an ambiance so vivid and entrancing that it could only have sprung from an imaginative mind as his own.
To that, Tyler made the most of his first headlining show at the festival, where he has performed numerous times before. “The first time I played Coachella was 2011,” he told the crowd midway through the set.

After making a joke about Iowa Hawkeyes player Caitlin Clark retiring her jersey for an apron, Michael Che was roasted on the “Weekend Update” segment of “SNL” this week by none other than Clark.
Che opened the bit by saying, “University of Iowa announced that Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired.” With a smirk and a laugh, he added, “And replaced with an apron.” The crowd didn’t love the joke, and Che playfully said, “Whoa! Well, the WNBA draft is this Monday, and Iowa star Caitlin Clark is expected to be the number one pick. Here to comment is Caitlin Clark.

Ryan Gosling returned to “SNL” this week in a cold open with “Barbie” co-star Kate McKinnon, reviving one of their most famous sketches, “Close Encounter,” in which they recount being abducted by aliens and their vastly different experiences aboard the spaceship.
The original sketch debuted eight years ago and featured Gosling and McKinnon, alongside Cecily Strong (it currently has 60 million views on YouTube). The actor also recreated this sketch on his second time hosting six years ago. In every attempt to act through “Close Encounter” Gosling has heroically attempted to get through McKinnon’s genius bit without breaking, every time he has failed.

After a run of three live shows in a row, Saturday Night Live is taking a two-week break. But before heading off on vacation, the show announced its next episode.
Dua Lipa is set to both host and serve as musical guest on Saturday May 4th. She will be the second host to pull double duty this season, after Bad Bunny.
It’ll be the British-Albanian pop star’s third visit to the live sketch show. She previously appeared as musical guest on February 3, 2018 and December 19, 2020.
On her second visit to the show, which happened to coincide with Kristen Wiig’s fourth hosting stint, she memorably appeared in U.S.O. Performance, a World War II-era musical sketch that saw her playing opposite Wiig and Bowen Yang.
Lipa’s third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” releases on May 3rd (the day before her SNL return).
