Ghost and Tommy are getting their own “Power” origins story. As Starz continues to span the “Power” universe into multiple series, the network is ready to announce the official fourth spinoff. The network confirmed Wednesday that it is developing the “Power” prequel series “Origins,” which will follow the beginning story of characters Ghost and Tommy, played in the original “Power” by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora.
Sascha Penn (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan”) will serve as the executive producer for “Origins,” which comes from Lionsgate TV. (It’s unclear whether it will actually be called “Power Book V: Origins.”)
The first “Power,” which debuted in 2014, starred Hardwick as James St. Patrick, a nightlife entrepreneur who is also a massively successful cocaine distributor known on the streets as “Ghost.” He rules that empore alongside his childhood friend Tommy, played by Sikora.

“Salem’s Lot,” the long-gestating adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel about vampires, will debut on streaming instead of premiering in theaters.
New Line, the studio behind the horror film, officially announced that “Salem’s Lot” will appear on Max in 2024. Variety previously reported that the movie was forgoing a traditional theatrical rollout in favor of a streaming bow. Both New Line and Max share a parent company in Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Salem’s Lot” was originally intended as a September 2022 release, but the studio pushed the film to spring 2023, citing Covid-related postproduction delays. It later took the movie off the release calendar.
Since David Zaslav took over as CEO of the media conglomerate after AT&T spun-off WarnerMedia and merged it with Discovery, the company has mostly resisted debuting films straight-to-streaming, arguing that releasing them in cinemas raises their profile and adds revenues. It has also cancelled a handful of titles, such as “Batgirl,...

The Australian author Liane Moriarty provided the source material for the first season of “Big Little Lies,” one of recent TV’s great success stories. Since that then-limited series exploded in 2017, dominating the discourse with a supernova of star power, conspicuous consumption and domestic strife, producers have continued to mine Moriarty’s catalog in search of more gold. Thus far, Hollywood has come up short. The second season of “Big Little Lies,” which Moriarty herself conceived with screenwriter David E. Kelley, was a disappointment; Hulu’s take on “Nine Perfect Strangers,” another Moriarty novel, was a collection of big names...

General Hospital viewers have been missing John J. York, who plays Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio on the long-running soap, but there is a sign he could soon be returning to Port Charles. York hasn’t been seen on the show since last November, as he’s been undergoing cancer treatment. The actor announced last September that he’d be taking a “brief hiatus” from General Hospital, later revealing he’d been battling Myelodysplastic Syndrome (Mds) and multiple smoldering myeloma since December 2022. After beginning blood stem cell transplant treatment in November, York has been on the mend and is now set to make his first public appearance alongside his on-screen wife, Kristina Wagner (Felicia). The pair will host a special Zoom fan event on Sunday, July 14, where viewers will get to hang out with the beloved soap duo. “So much to talk about,” York said on X (formerly Twitter) while promoting the upcoming event.

A familiar face showed up in The Conners Wednesday (March 13) night when legacy cast member Natalie West returned to the show to reprise her role as Crystal Anderson. West featured on the fifth episode of the currently airing sixth season, marking her first appearance on the Roseanne spinoff since the popular sitcom’s inaugural 2018 run. She appeared in the episode “When Sisters Collide and The Return of the Grifters,” where it was revealed Dan (John Goodman) had been using money to pay for her medical bills. Long-time viewers will remember West from Roseanne, where she starred in a total of 59 episodes across the show’s ten seasons. She was made a series regular for Seasons 3 and 4 and recurred before and after. Her character, Crystal, was introduced as an old friend of Roseanne and Dan. She later married Dan’s father, Ed (Ned Beatty), and the pair had two children together,...

9-1-1 may be moving networks — and nights! — but does that mean that there will be anything significantly different about the show itself when Season 7 premieres on ABC on March 14? The answer is no — at least, not in terms of the content. It still has the big disasters. In fact, this season kicks off with a three-episode cruise ship emergency, with Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) at the center of it, (finally) on their honeymoon. It also has intense character stories, and Oliver Stark (who plays Buck) agreed it’ll be fully familiar to fans when TV Insider talked to him about just that. “The day-to-day of the show feels very much the same. I think the only thing that feels different, I would say, is just the level of freshness and excitement and it feeling like the rightful home for it and that being felt in the cast...

Revenues at Bertelsmann’s Luxembourg-based Rtl Group, a media giant which owns Fremantle, dipped 5.2% to €6.2 billion ($6.7 billion) for the financial year 2023.
The company attributed this to lower TV advertising revenue and lower Fremantle revenue. The company’s Ebita slid to €782 million, down from €922 million in 2022.
Fremantle, Rtl’s content arm, had a strong year from an awards point of view, with its Element Pictures producing Golden Globe, BAFTA and Oscar winner “Poor Things.” However, revenue fell from €2.3 billion to €2.2 billion and Ebita from €162 million to €139 million. Rtl is targeting full-year revenue of €3 billion for Fremantle by 2025/2026.
There was good news on other fronts.

Editor’s note: 2024 marks 30 years since the original publication of “The Late Shift,” Bill Carter’s mind-bending chronicle of the behind-the-scenes power struggle to succeed Johnny Carson at his legendary Tonight show desk. The book was an instant bestseller, spawning an HBO movie of the same name and a 2010 follow-up, “The War for Late Night.” It also solidified Carter’s own reputation as “The King of Late Night Journalism.” Now the editor-at-large for LateNighter, we prevailed upon Bill to mark the book’s 30th with a little look-back. Humble man that he is, it took some coaxing, but we’re thankful that he agreed.

In an odd, rare show of bipartisanship, both Republicans and Democrats in Congress overwhelmingly agreed to effectively ban the social media video site TikTok in a House vote on Wednesday. Proponents of the bill, which would require the site’s Chinese owners to sell the site to a non-Chinese company within six months or face an American ban, warn of TikTok’s ability to manipulate pro-Chinese propaganda and compromise users’ data. Those opposed to the ban point out the dangerous precedent of the government shutting down a major information-sharing site—especially one overwhelmingly favored by young people—right before a pivotal presidential election.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans Episode 8, “Phantasm Forgiveness.”] Feud: Capote Vs. While Babe (Naomi Watts) is no longer there to provide him with such a fantasy, given that she died in the prior episode, that lingering regret eats at him along with the ghost of his mother, played by the deliciously vicious Jessica Lange. By the episode’s end, Truman has died and his ashes are being sold at auction. As the ghosts of his swans watch on, there’s a funeral feeling to it all. As...

In recent years, the real Love Is Blind drama hasn't happened in the pods or in spacious hotel rooms in Mexico — it's played out on social media, where rumors have swirled about cast members' suspicious behavior and past indiscretions. Season 4 brought us conspiracy theories about Kwame Appiah hiring an actor to play his sister on the show (a claim he denied), while Season 5 participant Renee Poche confirmed her engagement to Carter Wall was cut from the show entirely. These off-screen controversies have become just as interesting, if not more, than what airs on Netflix, but they've barely registered during the reunions, with hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey either mentioning them briefly before moving on, or ignoring them altogether.

The Love Is Blind Season 6 reunion didn’t waste any time getting into the thick of the drama. After catching up with some of the past Love Is Blind couples, hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey turned to Jeramey Lutinski, Sarah Ann Bick, and Laura Dadisman (who Zoomed in from Barcelona), to get to the bottom of this crazy love triangle. At the time the Season 6 reunion was filmed, Laura and Jeramey had been broken up for a year. He confirmed that he rode off into the sunset on jet skis with Sarah Ann, and they’re still together. One of the biggest Season 6 scandals was Jeramey and Sarah Ann’s late-night parking lot conversation until 5 a.m. — while he was still with Laura. “I shared my location before I left the house,” Jeramey said during the reunion. “Nothing inappropriate happened. We did hang back and continue to talk afterwards. The...

The “Love Is Blind” drama continued to heat up during the Season 6 reunion. Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, the reunion welcomed all five duos who got engaged as well as Sarah Ann, Trevor and Jessica, who all shared very interesting insights.
Considering 11 couples have gotten engaged on “Love Is Blind” and nine are still married, the series has been a successful experiment for most, including this season’s Johnny and Amy, who got married during the finale — and their families are still closer than ever.
They did eventually discuss birth control and admitted that condoms were an option — as many viewers asked.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 3.] The Yanu tribe has been memorably bad in Survivor 46. They finally caught a lucky break in Episode 3, but it wasn’t because of a challenge victory. Sadly, a player was eliminated from the game due to an injury that ended up not being worst-case scenario. Things were looking bad for Bhanu in the episode. His Episode 2 Tribal Council meltdown continued when they got back to camp, and his best strategy the next morning was to ask his teammates how he should play. When Kenzie said she was open to hearing out his ideas, he said he didn’t have any; he just wanted to follow her (or anyone’s) lead to get on their good sides. Inexplicably, Bhanu said this made Kenzie a vicious player. Bhanu seemingly...

With a potentially record-breaking final score and a Daily Double wager that had the live audience screaming with excitement, fans online are praising his “stunning” playing. But even doubling his score from 20,400 to 40,800 wasn’t enough to beat Troy. “On a normal day, Yogesh, that would win a Jeopardy game,” host Ken Jennings joked. “But Troy Meyer has $46,800. That is our highest total going into Final Jeopardy of the season,...

Alexa, find “Seinfeld.” Please?
A new study by hub Entertainment Research has found that about half of streaming users do not know which service has popular franchise shows — and licensing is to blame.
The licensing of TV series across several services — at once or at different times — has “created confusion as to where [shows] reside,” the report reads. For anyone without a (particularly good) voice-control remote, this is a problem.
Exactly 50 percent of hub’s (their stylization) survey respondents said they are “not sure” where “The Office” and “Friends” reside. “The Big Bang Theory” and “South Park” have a 55 percent/45 percent split, which means 55 percent are “not sure” where the shows stream and 45 percent at least wagered a guess — correctly or incorrectly.
A whopping 69 percent of survey-takers said they’re not sure where “Band of Brothers” is streaming. We get it, “Band of Brothers” is a 23-year-old premium-cable limited series. The...
