Fuji GF55mm f1.7

Just purchased the above lens and thought I’d shoot the brick wall test to make sure the lens was OK. After my disappointment with the GF100-200mm being soft down one edge, I’m paranoid when buying new lenses.

I am not a professional lens tester, nor do I ever want to be, but just wanted opinions from others who have the lens, as to whether mine is a good copy. I realise that when shooting at f1.7 and other wider apertures that corner sharpness is not going to matter too much.

I read a review on www.digitalcameraworld.com and they quoted…

“Levels of sharpness across almost the whole image frame are simply incredible, even when shooting wide-open at f/1.7. Right out at the edges and corners, sharpness is still better than we’ve seen from many lenses in the central region of the frame”
My shots below show corner sharpness to be soft wide open but sharpen up very nicely at F4.  The strange thing is, the centre of the frame at f1.7, seems sharper than the f4 centre.  What do you think?

apologies for the corners being darker but they were in slight shade.  Hope these screen grabs are adequate to see the differences?

Corner at f1.7 and f4

Centre at f1.7 and f4
