Actor Miloš Biković will no longer be part of The White Lotus.
HBO says it “decided to part ways” with the actor will recast the role in the show’s forthcoming third season, which is set to begin filming in Thailand this month. The change comes after Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Biković’s casting over the Serbian-born actor’s seeming support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a Jan. 24 social media post, the ministry wrote, “HBO, is it all right for you to work with a person who supports genocide & violates international law?” over a video clip of statements Biković has made about Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Biković has worked in Russia for the past decade; he received an award from Vladimir Putin in 2018 and became a Russian citizen in 2021.

Avatar: The Last Airbender holds a special place in a lot of people’s hearts. Fans have been protective of the Nickelodeon franchise ever since the film adaptation of The Last Airbender by director M. Night Shyamalan released in 2010, which justifiably set the series back several years from ever receiving any sort of adaptation in the near future. When Netflix got their hands on the property, there was obvious skepticism, but when the series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino were announced to be on board (something the film adaptation lacked), those cautiously curious had their interests fully piqued. Although the original creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender eventually dropped out of the series after two years “over creative differences,” fans still held out hope, especially after we got some first-look images and a teaser trailer showcasing Netflix’s live-action interpretation. Everything looked the way it was supposed to.

Usher will entertain what will surely be the biggest audience of his career on February 11 as millions of viewers watch Super Bowl Lviii’s halftime show. And he’s using the opportunity to pay homage to the Black artists that have come before him, “To have R&b have the main stage at the Super Bowl, it’s a major thing for me,” Usher said in a new interview on Good Morning America. “I think about what our country has kind of represented for Black artists, you know, having to at some point go through kitchens to even be able to perform for an audience, but they had to leave back through that same door [and] fear for their lives as they went to the next state to do the same thing. So I’m coming through the front door with this one. I think about all of the R&b...

The pairing of host Ayo Edebiri and musical guest Jennifer Lopez on Saturday Night Live could have been an awkward one, considering Edebiri once claimed that J.Lo’s career was “one long scam.” But the star of The Bear walked back those comments during her SNL debut, saying she was “24 and stupid.” And speaking of backtracking, Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance on the NBC show and addressed the time she declined to say slavery was the cause of the Civil War. And Saturday’s episode also revealed that Shane Gillis, who has his own history of offensive remarks, will host the next SNL installment. Ayo Edebiri eats her words about Jennifer Lopez In the days leading up to Edebiri’s SNL hosting debut, her years-old comments about Jennifer Lopez resurfaced. The social media backlash happened nearly concurrently with the cameo itself when presidential candidate Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance on the February 3 installment of “Saturday Night Live.“
Interrupting a Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) town hall in the cold open, Haley made an age joke about Presidents Trump and Biden, grinned awkwardly while “Trump” made fun of her name, and got in a few attack lines in the sketch-turned-free-commercial. Cut to a question from a concerned voter (host Ayo Edebiri) for a joke about her recent “gaffe” regarding her inability to say that the cause of the Civil War was slavery. “SNL” even let Haley say the iconic “Live, from New York…” line!
Oof.
What was striking wasn’t that Haley was on the program. It’s that it felt like her team was trying out a decision from a pre-Trump late-night landscape. Who on earth is this for?...

Miracles are rare in the 21st century, but watch pretty much any episode of The Chosen and they are bountiful. But the biggest miracle of all is perhaps the fact that a historical drama centered around Jesus of Nazareth (a warm and welcoming Jonathan Roumie), set in 1st century Galilee as He preaches, gains followers (and enemies) and, on occasion, raises the dead and walks on water, has built a passionate legion of faithful viewers. How did a crowdfunded production become a heavenly international sensation? The holy cards were stacked against The Chosen from the start. Faith-based television is historically hit-or-miss. The Academy Award-winning 1956 classic The Ten Commandments, which has aired on ABC nearly every Easter season since 1973, regularly reaps solid viewership. But in terms of scripted TV, for every spiritual success (think Highway to Heaven and Touched by an Angel), there are just as many failures (anyone remember ABC...

Saturday Night Live announced this weekend that Shane Gillis, the comedian who, just moments after being hired, was notably fired from the show for his history of making racist and homophobic comments, will host the Feb. 24 episode.
In 2019, Gillis was one of three new additions announced for SNL‘s 45th season, along with Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang. But within hours of that announcement, Twitter was flooded with questionable clips from Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast — which Gillis co-hosted with fellow comic Matt McCusker in 2018 — in which he used a racist slur to describe people living in New York City’s Chinatown.

Listen, Intelligence’s Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) may not be the same man he was when we first met him on Chicago Fire, but he’s still done some questionable things over the years and we know just how dark he can get on P.D., especially after 11 seasons. Well, it sounds like more of that is coming. “We’re only on Episode 7—there’s only 13—but I think we’re turning to the big bad of the season,” Marina Squerciati recently told TV Insider while discussing the Kim Burgess-centric “Safe Harbor,” which ended with her and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) once again engaged. “I think there’s going to be a serial killer, and we’re going to see a bit of the old Voight rage come back. So that’s really going to take control right now.” She continued, “We just started it, so I don’t really have much to say.

How do you replace someone as iconic as Brad Pitt? That’s the challenge that Donald Glover found himself facing when he took on the role of John Smith in the Prime Video adaptation of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” which he co-created alongside Francesca Sloane. Glover’s take on the material is considerably more grounded than the 2005 Doug Liman film, but he still sought Pitt’s advice before stepping into his shoes.
Appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Glover recalled having a brief conversation with Pitt before taking on the role. The “Atlanta” hyphenate explained that Pitt didn’t offer much substantive advice about the character and relied on his movie star charm to get out of the conversation.
“He didn’t give me any real pointers,” Glover said. “He kind of Brad Pitt-ed his way out of it. He just kind of like charmed his way. He was like,...

The abrupt cancellation of “Westworld” in late 2022 marked an unceremonious ending for what was once one of HBO’s buzziest series. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s adaptation of Michael Crichton’s sci-fi novel followed the employees and customers of a futuristic theme park that allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the Wild West, taking out their most violent urges on realistic androids built to resemble humans. But while its debut season was a cultural phenomenon, declining viewership and critical reception prompted HBO to part ways with the show after Season 4.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Westwood” star Evan Rachel Wood reflected on the show’s cancellation. She revealed that the most painful part of the process was being left in the dark about how the story would have ultimately ended.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Backstab and Betrayal,” the sixth episode of “The Traitors” Season 2, now streaming on Peacock.
Not once in his two-season run on CBS’ “Big Brother” did legendary player Dan Gheesling see his name written down for eviction. More than a decade later, it is still an impressive feat in the annals of reality competition history.

HBO has dropped Serbian-Russian actor Miloš Biković from “The White Lotus” Season 3 after his alleged ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin went viral on social media.
“We have decided to part ways with Miloš Biković and the role will be recast,” an HBO spokesperson told IndieWire.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called out HBO’s casting of Biković last week, alleging the actor supports Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ social media account wrote on X January 24 that Biković “supports genocide & violates international law.”
“HBO, is it all right for you to work?” the post said, tagging HBO. The ministry included a montage of clips appearing to show Biković receiving an award from Putin. In 2018, the actor received the Pushkin Medal for his contributions to Russian culture and in 2021 received Russian citizenship by presidential decree. The video appears to show Biković supporting Russia’s occupation of Crimea,...

Francis Ford Coppola‘s 1974 masterpiece “The Conversation” will be remade as a TV series, with “Margin Call” and “All Is Lost” filmmaker J.C. Chandor attached to both write and direct the series, IndieWire has confirmed.
Chandor will direct via his CounterNarrative Films banner alongside Temple Hill, producer Adam Fishbach, and executive produced by Coppola’s American Zoetrope. Erin Levy, known for her work on “Mad Men” and “Mindhunter,” will be the showrunner on “The Conversation” remake.
MRC is the studio behind the series, and the company optioned the TV remake rights directly from the Coppola estate.

Growing up in St. Charles, Illinois, Dallas Jenkins was not the child who was restless while sitting in the pews of church during a long service or in a classroom learning about the Bible. In fact, he was invigorated by Scripture lessons. And the Evangelical Christian, who would end up creating spiritual megahit The Chosen, always asked lots of questions. Jenkins remembers seeing classic imagery of Jesus Christ while in classes, where the Son of God was dressed in immaculate white and blue robes on flannelgraph and picture books. “He was just a big, smiling guy, and all the disciples are these old, bearded dudes,” the 48-year-old recalls. “But I was the one in class [asking], ‘What would it be like playing cards against Jesus? He always knows what you have! What would it be like to play sports with Jesus or to sit around a campfire [with Him]?’” ...

Carl Weathers is dead at the age of 76. It’s shocking to consider, even though his best-known character, Apollo Creed, in some ways was ultimately defined by his death in 1985’s “Rocky IV.” The franchise went on without him, and ultimately followed his son played by Michael B. Jordan. But for the next 38 years, there was the fact that Weathers was in reality alive, well, in astonishingly great shape, and underutilized.
Now, Weathers has died himself. And given that he was one of Hollywood’s most prominent musclemen of the late ’70s and ’80s, an era defined by fitness-obsessed actors who either were athletes or aspired to be them, 76 feels startlingly young. Especially given how vital and active he was up until the very end, even directing a couple episodes of “The Mandalorian” so good that one wishes he could have, for the sake of that show’s quality, directed more.
